USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

"Rumor: Aidan Gillen, actor well-known for the role of petyr baelish in game of Thrones, could play a key character or even the villain in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery.
According to the rumor, the actor may appear in the final episode of the first season of the series.
Source: an article published on moviepilot, and shortly after removed.
In anticipation of true confirmations, the news is to be considered only as a rumor."
Looking at pictures of him as Carcetti and Littlefinger, there's something in his expression that just screams Garth for me. Maybe we could witness his fall from grace and the chain of events that ended up with him on Elba II. But no matter who he'd play if he were really cast, I agree with those before me that he would surely be a most welcome addition.

*slow grin* Oh, I think I get it. Fifty-something with boyish looks and charm, English/Irish accent... IF he's been cast, he's playing someone already namedropped on the show. Someone just featured in the newest DSC novel.

We're finally about to meet the first captain of NCC-1701. Aidan's going to be Fleet Captain Robert April.

Yep - Beat me to it. I almost immediately thought he's more April than Pike...but with Cornwell in there as an Admiral I don't think they are going to have another one turn up (since Starfleet's odds of winning halve with every additional member of the general staff present and surely he'd be classed as top brass, whatever his official rank)

Kirk said he read about Garth in the Academy. Currently Kirk is a Lt. on the Farragut, so it can't be.

I had assumed April would be older, like in his mid 70's, by the time DSC takes place. Somebody of Gillen's age would still be in command, wouldn't they? Especially a decorated veteran like April.

In fact, if April were ever to turn up on DSC, I was hoping it would be (don't laugh)...

Michael Palin.

He said he read about his exploits, so he might have already been a decorated captain a few years back. It doesn't necessarily mean his fall from grace couldn't have happened after Kirk graduated. Garth was one of his heroes so the news of his incarceration would probably catch his attention. But then again, when Saru had the computer list the most decorated Starfleet captains, Garth was missing from them, so he might already be spending his days in whatever institution he was held in before being transferred to Elba II.

Unless that list held more than 5 names... ;)

Robert April was 62 in 2257.

Nothing about Robert April is canon except for his name on Saru's list. The rest is just fan-canon. Besides, even if he was 62, Gillien is 50 and people in 200 years would no doubt age better, and could easily be 62.

Memory-Alpha says he was born in 2195, citing the TAS episode he appears in.

Been a while since I seen it, so I don't know how they came to that conclusion.
