not saying this is better than what we got on screen, but was playing around in photoshop (poorly) to see what could be done to make her feel more in line with the discovery aesthetic.

came down to changing the nacelle cap color:

We've seen other starfleet shops in DSC with Orange/red bussards though.

Not all of them were blue.

true, but the point was to try get these two ships to feel a little more connected than they otherwise are.

and also, as someone who really loves the kelvin timeline enterprise(s), i kind of prefer the blue.

Maybe the DSC aesthetic should try to skew a little more in the direction of TOS? ;)

I'd also have swapped out the awful gaudy gold deflector dish for something more Kelvin universe-esque.

    thought about it.

doesn't even have to be kelvin-esque, can just be discovery's deflector.

    I love the dish.

Also, I love this edit! I've always disliked the nacelle cap being dark red - IMO that already looked weird on the NX-01 and the Phoenix.

The original was orange, god dammit!

It's not so much the hue itself - it's the goddamn saturation! It needs be be brighter - like you did so well here, just with blue.

    But it’s iconic.

It’s also not a flat gold, there is detailing on it.

Yeah, I pretty much do, too.

STD's designers have added nothing of value, visually, to Star Trek and do their best when they're imitating earlier versions most closely.

I like it too. It looks like it might actually do something. We already have enough random glowy bits on the ships these days.

Even the hull plating on the Klingon D7 has glowy bits. We get it. Glowy means cool for some stupid reason.

    Tone it down a notch.

    The original was more copper-y.

    I don't think it's glowing. Just reflective.
