USS Enterprise (eventually) on Discovery?

I guess I did, though since making big money means appealing to a much wider audience, why should CBS care about detail-obsessed fans like me?
I would love TPTB to talk about their discussions relating to making Trek more appealing to a “wider audience”. I’d be interested to hear what they decided to change and why and how all that fits in to changing the Enterprise.

Most people don't want to watch a show that looks like it's from the '60s. All of you know this. Period. Can you tell me with a straight face that Star Trek Continues would reach a wide audience? No. You can't.

So, whoever Discovery is appealing to, it's not the "TOS or bust" crowd. I don't know. Maybe my perspective is different. The movies from the '80s are what made me a fan. Technically I saw those and TNG before I saw TOS. So, as much as TOS was my favorite, it was never my "first", so I just wouldn't have the same type of hard-wired biases no matter how much I like the show. So, a Star Trek series that looks closer to the films isn't something I object to. And that's all they did. They made the Enterprise line up better with the original films and DSC.

No one has ever said Discovery should look exactly like TOS. I'll repeat what I've said before: someone with a talented eye could've taken those designs and details and given us something more aesthetically similar to TOS while using modern production values.

Nobody argued this. How did you get that from what I said? Apologies if I was being vague or unclear but I’ve never argued that DSC should look like the 60s.

What I said was it would be nice to understand the thought process behind the changes and why they thought specific ones were necessary in the way that those changes were made.

If anything I want to gauge the impact of the Kelvin timeline on DSC since that did reach a wide audience.

Personally I’d prefer if everyone stopped leaping to the “TOS fanboiiiii” extreme whenever anyone asks a perfectly reasonable question about the changes made to DSC.

They made the Enterprise line up better with the original films and DSC.
Can you tell me with a straight face that Star Trek The Motion Picture would reach a wide audience if they made it today? No. You can‘t.

So why on Earth should the Enterprise “line up” with a movie version that debuted in a film that everybody claims to hate - even though it’s got a far more engaging story that Star Trek Pew TWoK?

Undiscovered Country has the best story of the TOS films IMO.

WoK is ok, the story isn't the best.
I completely agree with this.

I’ve always thought the second half of TWoK was kinda dull.

TUC and TSFS are favourites of mine as there are more character moments in both films.

TMP is the most underrated Trek film followed by TFF and INS. Insurrection isn't really great but it's a better film with a more interesting storyline than a lot of fans have given it credit for over the past two decades.
INS would have made a great two parter of the series and i think it came the closest to capturing the tone of TNG on the big screen. I mean I love FC and I don’t think Picard is as out of character as some have argued given his reaction to Hugh and him yelling at Riker about him in “descent”, but it’s more of a “movie” than INS.

TMP is a great film - particularly as Star Trek film. Understanding a new life form and trying to communicate with it. While having some nice moments with Kirk Spock and McCoy. Great film. And it resulted in TWoK being made because it made a ton of money. So it can’t be all bad.

TFF was Kirk’s dream.

But there are some nice moments in that film. The campfire stuff is enjoyable as is the bit in the brig.

Also “what does god need with a starship?” Pure Star Trek gold.
