Because those abbreviations have been used by people and are recognisable?
It is so annoying when someone used an abbreviation and nobody knows what it means.
I've seen DIS and DSC used more often.

or is STD not allowed? for some unknown reason?
Again, we first saw the original designs for those three props in "The Cage" - and then 12/13 years later (in Universe) in TOS. ST: D takes place 2 to 3 years after the events of "The Cage" - so these new props IMO could very well fit as something issued 2-3 years later and they contain more than enough cues to place then as in-between variants. The aesthetic, but not the 1:1 design.
If the connie were to ever be on screen, it would probably be something closer to the Phase II or TMP version.

Again, as long as the NCC 1701 they chose to show looks like something 'in between' "The Cage" 1701 and "The Man Trap" (the first aired TOS episode - although technically it would be "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - which used the same 1701 model as "The Cage"; that would satisfy me.
If it's too radical a change when/if ever shown on ST: D I don't think it would be all that reconcilable that they do such a radical change and then 10 years or so later decide to suddenly regress the design on the 'next' refit - but that's me![]()
Again, given those particular ship classes were never seen or mentioned previously, I would disagree. I would only say they don't look anything like the Starship/Constitution class. There were plenty of other ships and ship types mentioned they never showed on the screen in the TOS era.Everything they've shown so far, ships, Klingons, Klingons ships, the gear, isn't reconcilable at all with TOS.

The Klingon ships, if ancient and older than TOS by hundreds of years, could definitely be reconcilable. The one ship we see lifting off is definitely a D7 forerunner.Everything they've shown so far, ships, Klingons, Klingons ships, the gear, isn't reconcilable at all with TOS.
We saw non-ancient looking Klingon ships in the trailer
Plus we are shown holographic communications which were never in TOS
It is TOS and prime Universe lore accurate, but they're using 2017 designs
Yes, they did. The view panels (often with blinking lights; but they also had graphics display capability - even if they were colored plastic overlays in the 1960iesThe shenzhou and discovery have touch screens, the TOS Connie didn't
I agree. If they show the ole girl she'll be updated. They won't show the tos Connie exactly the same ot was in 1960s, mark my words, feel free to tell me "told you so" if they do.
The interior won't either.
The Shenzhou has a TNG-style atmospheric forcefield and Nemesis-style forcefields to seal hull breaches, ten years before TOS. In TOS, the shuttlebay had to pressurise after a shuttle landed. 15 years later in Wrath of Khan, they had isolation doors to seal off breaches. The shenzhou and discovery have touch screens, the TOS Connie didn't

I'm waiting for the show to start before committing to it (for they may explain any number of ways), but it really looks like a huge continuity issue beyond what "visual upgrade" would explain, to me.There's nothing wrong with isolation bulkheads sealing off damaged sections of the ship, particularly if there's a danger of massive venting to space if said forcefield fails. It's called a redundancy, and quite frankly I'd rather have those on a starship than not.
As for the shuttle bay pressurizing: that could be a standard practice when ships pass through the force field. Surely there's some loss of atmospheric gasses when those fields are pierced. The ship certainly had force fields (e.g. brig).
Or, maybe it means the Enterprise is an older ship than Discovery and Shenzhou, and didn't have those available (they were to be installed on Tuesday, at night).

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before:
Discovery take place 10 years before Kirk takes command of the Enterprise in 2265, and the Enterprise was apparently built in 2245, the Enterprise under the command of Pike could show up in the series at some point. If this was to happen, it could near the end of the series.
