Universe Characters Revealed?

I don't know what you are all complaining about?
Half of this cast will be gone after the second season and the REAL characters will be introduced. Just like on Atlantis. :evil:

Hell, if previous Stargates are any indication, then this Tamara Jon character is definately going to die. As a field medic she seems the closest thing they have to a doctor, and doctors on Stargates do tend to die. Janet Frasier and Carson Beckett, I'm looking in your direction.

I don't see what all the fuss is about casting sheets like that are only general guidelines

The Atlantis casting sheet turned out to be pretty accurate.

What do you think of these descriptions then :guffaw:

Hah, I remember thinking they were pretty generic, too. And whether the characters worked or flopped depended almost entirely on the actors who were cast. So we don't know nuthin'

Colonel Everett Young: Goran Visnjic (not quite 40's, but he's a fan of SG1 from what I remember, and can have a commanding presence).

Oh, that's good. But I'd like to see someone other than yet another white male lead.

My personal theory behind the "release" of this casting sheet is that someone low-ranked in the production got a hold of it, and was so aghast at its content that he/she decided to make it public, this forcing the powers that be to alter the show based on the inevitable feedback this would generate.

My personal theory is that the writers & producers think this is all great stuff and are happy to show it off for their adoring fans. After all, the ratings are strong enough to keep the franchise going - why wouldn't they think they're giving the fans exactly what they want?

Gateworld have posted up the main character rundowns for the SGU casting call. These things always make the characters sound like awful clichés but there is some really cringeworthy sounding stuff in here. Having said that this doesn't come from an official source so could it could be all nonsense.

Is this our new team?

Colonel Everett Young
40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he's temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon
20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn't afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter
20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father's footsteps but for now she's a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock
20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in sptv050769. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash
20-25. Junior S.G.C. team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl's fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak
20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don't want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he'd kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR.

Young: So who's gonna fix the hyperdrive??!?

Everyone looks at Hitchcock.

Hitchcock: Oh, here we go. When the shit hits the gate, its up to me to save the day.

Young: Can you fix it, OR NOT!??!?!

Hitchcock: I dunno, I've not eaten since lunch. Maybe I could pull some additional power from-

Nash: The Chair!

Hitchcock: Of course, the chair. :rolleyes: Look, just give me a minute, talk among yourselfs. Chloe, can you fix me a sandwich?

Chloe: What am I? Your slave? I'm the daughter of Senator Reed! I have powerful friends, 4 private jets and urm, unlimited assets back home and will not be treated this way!

Carpenter: Look, Princess Leia, your assets aren't gonna do you much much good out here..... gets a brief look at Carpenter's impressive cleavage ...well, maybe they will. I'll have a BLT, thanks.

Nash: So erm.......are we gonna name the ship? I've been thinking of-

Young: We are NOT naming it the Pegasus.

Nash: :(

Stasiak [Bored]: Call me when something needs killing. Walks off, gets a brief look at Carpenter's impressive cleavage.....I'll be in my bunk.

Suddenly the self destruct countdown goes off.

Young: Hitchcock!

Hitchcock: Erm.....I may have fried a couple of key circuits.

Young: May?!? May have!!?

Carpenter: I'm scared. Looks at Nash ....Hold me... runs to Nash who holds her close .....You're the only true gentleman on the ship, you know that? You're every Senator's daughter's fantasy..... wow! I didn't know you felt that way about me.

Nash: Erm, that's my Zat, honey.

Carpenter: Oh.

Young: Where's Jon?

Hitchcock: As dead as we are. Look, I can't shut the self destruct off. Sorry guys.

Young: Can this day get any worse?!?!?

Long pause.

Carpenter: I'm pregnant.

:p

What do you think of these descriptions then :guffaw:

When was the Atlantis casting sheet put online? And where on it is Rodney, who we know was a last minute addition? No, this is a mere guideline nothing more.

well the guideline sucks then

It should be noted that the SG1 were largely unknown and at the time were quite young themselves Shanks was 27, Judge was 33, Tapping was 32. I can only imagine what the reaction around here would've been when SG1 first came out.

That's still 10 years older than the cast they are proposing here

Exactly. You gotta love gateworld's clutching at straws.

That's still 10 years older than the cast they are proposing here

Huh?

Colonel Everett Young
40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago,

The leader is according to the casting sheet about the same age that Jack was when SG1 started and those are character ages not the actor's ages. Tapping, Shanks and Judge were all younger than their characters were. And I've yet to see a casting sheet calling for a middle aged, overweight character, even Tuvok on Voyager was supposed to have been an actor in his 60s and yet they went with Tim Russ. Heck even the cast of the new Battlestar Galactica were all young for the most part except for Adama, Roslin and Tigh.

So what do you think of the guideline?

They're clearly aiming at a younger demographic but the same could've been said for SG1, I doubt seriously if the characters will end up being that young nor do I think they won't be changed along the way. The final character Ron "Psycho" Stasiak sounds a bit like Wolverine except for his height and that might make him an interesting character. But I still think it's too early to tell much from this casting sheet.

Talk about clutching at straws. Shanks, Tapping and Judge where 27-33. The younger members of this cast are 20-25. That's between 7 and 13 years younger than SG-1 = approx 10 years.

Somehow, I couldn't imagine you having a bad word to say about it.

What cast? Stargate Universe hasn't been cast yet, this is a casting sheet it's just a guideline for possible casting choices, you're the one clutching at straws.

Can anyone think of actors between the ages of 20-25 who they'd want to see in any TV show?

Give me characters targetted to be 30-50 years old, and I'd give you a laundry list of actors I'd love to see, who'd keep me watching even if the scripts are complete and utter garbage.

Also, why would the military send a bunch of kids on any important mission? One qualification for the Stargate program is being able to keep your mouth shut about it. If it were up to me, I wouldn't allow anyone under the age of 25 in the program to begin with, and I'd give preference to people with advanced education and experience, so that for the most part, the most qualified people would be at least 30.

Sure, I'd get some young guys to be muscle. But who cares about them as characters? The older people are the ones who will be doing interesting things.

Where does it say the actors are going be in that age group?

You better include several Canadians on that list since the show is filmed in Canada by law it needs to have a number of Canadians working on the show.

Right there on the casting sheet. The only character past 20-25 is the lead. Sure, they might cast a little older (or younger) than what they've targeted, but those targeted ages are highly indicative of the direction they're going.

I doubt it, I can't see this being set in stone. But however the casting goes I hope they're cast as a group to try and get some of the chemistry that SG1 had.

Well, hopefully the guidelines are just to throw us off guard and make us mad, then they will surprise us with a really good cast, here's hoping
