Universe Characters Revealed?

Anyone find it funny one of the characters name is "Young" considering the ages of the rest of people.

I wonder if one of these spots will be replaced with someone we know like how Rodney was brought in. Benjamin Ingram turned into Rodney Mckay

Bring Coombs and Felger!

Coomb- I love being stuck on a spaceship!

Felger- What are you gonna name it hmm? Enterprise!

that's why i thought it would be allison porter.

I hope this list is some sort of fake-out, because frankly I think most people could write better character descriptions than this.
When all is said and done they should throw us some sort of bone and bring in a character we already know. The aforementioned Porter, or Zalenka, Lorne, Beckett clone, Young Jack O'Neill, or one of those youngsters from Proving Ground (I think that's what it was called), they should have pretty solid SG experience by now.

No the LEAST this show needs is to bring over an existing main character. That just reeks of desperation. You all know they would like nothing more than to bring over Dr. Keller... Ugh.

I'd rather have them start out from scratch... let the show stand or fall on its own.

My personal theory behind the "release" of this casting sheet is that someone low-ranked in the production got a hold of it, and was so aghast at its content that he/she decided to make it public, this forcing the powers that be to alter the show based on the inevitable feedback this would generate.

From the names with the exception of the main character, WTF :wtf: This does sound horrible though I wouldn't be surprised if MGM/SCI FI made them re tool the characters after the lukerwarm reception to the fans, even GateWorld people don't like.

Big problem for the show is fans are going into it with a negative view meaning the show won't get a fair shot IMO.

hmmm... i thought they were testing nicole de'boer's porter as a potential. guess not.

The idea was, according to Joe Mallozzi, that Beckett would join the team from Whispers as the fourth member and they would be back as recurring characters in season six but obviously that's not going to happen now. Plus that all women team was Mallozzi's baby and he won't be writing or producing for SGU, it looks like he and Mullie's involvement in the franchise now is limited to the Atlantis movie(s).

Here's hoping this isn't real. Of course, casting sheets and writer's bibles always make stuff sound stilted and cliched, so it could work out better than it sounds if it is real. But given the 'gates track records by now, I'm none too hopeful.

I don't see what all the fuss is about casting sheets like that are only general guidelines, it'll be interesting to see how this matches up to the actual casting of the show.

Interesting. I'm willing to bet that theses characters, with the exception of Colonel Young, aren't going to be introduced at the main characters. We'll probably get a bunch of recognisible actors as Colonel Young's team with these guys as the secondaries. Something will go horribly wrong and this lot will step up.

As for the actually characters, they're bascially rehashed younger versions of the characters they already have.

The Atlantis casting sheet turned out to be pretty accurate.

What do you think of these descriptions then :guffaw:

^Most of the SGA breakdowns are pretty close to what made it to screen but don't forget that McKay was initially going to be a forty-something African-American called Ingram. Things can and do change and we don't know how many of these characters will end up being regulars - actually at this point we still don't have these characters officially confirmed at all.

I'm trying not to judge this before I see the finished product but so far every new bit of info releases has left me feeling less and less enthusiastic.

...and we don't know how many of these characters will end up being regulars...

Officially, no. But if this holds up, this looks to be it. We know they have to get going on pre-production before too long, so unless this is a fake, it's probably the way things will go down (at least in the pilot).

But I'm a lot more cynical than you, Etched.

I'm one of the biggest fans of the gate universe, but this cast list has me worried. It seriously does sound like the Young SG-1 spoof from "200" They made fun of it, yet here they are doing it. SGU needs to be much more mature IMO, SG-1 started off great, but did get a little too goofy towards the end even for Stargate, and Atlantis further pushed the show into sillyville, they really need SGU to be a bit more mature to bring the franchise back around.

To be honest I'm every bit as cynical as you, every things about this show sounds awful and screams of middle age men in suits trying to make something that is kewl and down wid da kidz. I honestly think that they've got it into their heads that they can make some kind of young sexy Stargate/BSG hybrid but in the process they have completely missed the point of what made both shows so successful.

Did SG-1 ever do a a joke about Mitchell's name being the same as the old TV actor?

This sounds like they're leaning back in the direction of SG-1 in some respects - looking for a "star actor" to anchor the series, emphasizing the military background and status of several of the principals - and that's probably a good idea. Doesn't sound bad, really.

It would be better, of course, if someone had a drunken and abusive uncle.

Carpenter and Hitchock.

Last time a sci fi show named some of its characters after film directors was Seaquest, that had a fairly young cast too.

Come to think of it, the director of half the SG1 and atlantis episodes was in that too.

Better watch out for talking dolphins.
