Universe Characters Revealed?

Unless I missed something (Which is possible), you're complaining about the character list, because no casting has been announced.

The thing about characters is that anyone can sound boring in a 3 line summary. Furthermore, I'm less concerned with what a character is like in the pilot than I am with who they've become by the finale. I'm sorry you don't feel the same way.

I think people are less worried about the "character" descriptions, as to the fact almost all of them are described as "young and smoking hot", a combination which infrequently goes hand in hand with "great actor"

TBH Ive come to the conclusion that these casting 'notes' mean nothing other than a brief description of the age they are looking for as they are likely waiting for an actor or actress to be cast untill they flesh them out some more.

Its like when David Nykl went for the Zelenka audition he was originally auditioning for a Russian character, after they discovered he was part Czech they changed the character.

I know this is a background character not one of the principles but still, James Doohan was part of the process of making Scotty Scottish, Richard Dean Anderson made O'Neill more sarcastic.

Ive decided Im going with my Star Trek mind set and not be negative untill I see something to be really negative about.

I look forward to you clarifying which combinations of age and beauty do frequently go hand in hand with "great actor."

Sorry, by 'cast list' I meant 'casting sheet' - the sheet of character descriptions circulated to agents, which is what this is presumably a draft of.

Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro spring immediately to mind, as does the late, great Paul Newman.

But the real issue here is mistrust of Stargate's casting overall. Sure, they do a nice job snagging some really hot guys as lead actors, but I can think of way too many examples of horrendous casting - bimbos of the week who can't act, Ancients who stand around in robes and pontificate woodenly, that sort of thing. I just don't trust these people to do a decent job of casting, not when they must have looked at Rachel Luttrel and Jason Momoa's audition and failed to note their complete lack of any noticeable acting ability.

It is rather telling that most people's favourite character on Atlantis is the one guy who is probably the least good looking of the cast, at least until Picardo joined. (Rodney BTW)

Shows what you know, Robert Picardo is one of television's greatest sex symbols.

No, I don't know if I'm being serious or not.

Having said that this doesn't come from an official source so could it could be all nonsense.
Let's hope. But Mallozzi's comments suggest it's pretty close to real.

Colonel Everett Young
This si the only One I think has any real potential and a chance of being 'different' to what we've already seen a dozen times. Tbh he kind of sounds like Colonel Summoner, which is a good thing - I was sorry they killed him off so soon.

Main problem here is this line:
Hello, Sam Carter. Amanda Tapping finally got too expensive/busy, so we've recast the exact same character in a younger model. Are we ever going to have a female character who isn't "beautiful, tough, smart, capable"? Seeign this young lady becoming the Mary Sue of the show.

Naturally. I really think sometimes the male writing cast think they're writing porn when they do their casting sheets, the way they describe their female characters.

The TNG casting sheet said Dr. Crusher walked like a stripper. That crazy Roddenberry dude...

The point, which due to your misinterpretation of what I wrote I'm now labouring extensively, is that being young and attractive doesn't mean you can't act, just as being old and attractive doesn't mean you can act. There's no combination of age and level of attractiveness that does scream 'great actor,' and until there is I refuse to write off the young cast of a science fiction show that hasn't been seen by any of us.

The only point I will cede is that out of all the main actors who have played leading roles in SG-1 and Atlantis, the only two that can't act are Rachel Luttrell and Jason Momoa. And neither of them are terrible in a Garret Wang-in-Voyager kinda way, they're just not very good. That's not a bad strike rate, and certainly isn't enough to make me skeptical about the Universe producers' ability to adequately cast their new show.

Eh, I can't stand him. And you'd have to ask females who their favorite character is for your thesis (sex appeal doesn't matter) to hold true. My favorite is Shep, for obvious reasons. ;)

Yeah that's what you get for making garbled and nonsensical posts. Put a bit more effort into your prose in the future, 'kay? :p

You obviously have low standards for what you consider good actors.

Roddenberry too was rather sex obsessed, by many accounts. Doesn't surprise me he'd do the same thing the Stargate writers do here and describe every female character as if they're sleeping with them.
