Uniforms in the new series

O_o There was only one show called Enterprise... It won't take much to distance themselves from that.

Also, the peace between the Klingons and the Federation was not always a bed of roses. The Federation refused aid in the civil war, as well as in their war against the Cardassians. The idea that politics can turn tumultuous is something that could shed light on different ideas of relationships between the two powers.

It doesn't have to be even in the same continuity to utilize some of the powerful political themes from TUC. Meyer used them quite well, in my opinion, though I am biased due to TUC being my favorite.

I can see where you guys are coming from, I just want a series where new audiences don't need to do a lot homework just to get into the show. I'm exhausted with continuity, but if the series could create some political intrigue episodically, and without it being a drag on every episode, I could tolerate it. It's not what I want, heck DS9 had it but went waaaay too far after the 3rd season.

As long as they make it character-driven instead of lore-driven and as long as they make it concrete instead of abstract, it should have a fighting chance. By concrete I mean actual threats that are physically present, mostly embodied by other beings who can be talked to, fought, reasoned with, and/or punched as needed. By abstract I mean random spacial anomalies and sentient clouds and other random technobabble that people can't relate to.

It'll fair better through the pay viewer thing* and should finish it's run I think. When the series is not up to par, CBS could produce new ones, I'm hoping they steer away from spin-offs but looking at CBS' lineups in the past; multiple CSI shows, Criminal Minds, and NCIS, expect to have at least same amount of shows we had like Berman's bloated productions.

*And for the small brains, YES, I DO KNOW IT'S A SUBSCRIPTION.

It might be nice to see a procedural set in the Star Trek universe. They seem to be really good at producing those. NCIS: Star Trek.

We did see a procedural in STAR TREK. After the fourth season of TNG, 90s Trek became more of a technobabble procedural. Stories were centered more around tech the tech.

This thread also seems to have moved on from uniforms. It would be nice to get back to topic and not talk about Star Trek procedurals etc.

I'm still in favor or either more division colors or none at all, three isn't enough to use them effectively, in that case they can just ditch them.

I also hope they go for an actual uniform look and not space pyjamas and seriously, give them pockets! It's not like the future folk doesn't have stuff to put in there, they're just forced to carry it around or clip everything to their belts. That's fine for a weapon, but a tricorder, a padd or a communicator could go into a pocket.

I'm curious what the reasons is that three would not be effective when three has served well in most incarnations of Trek. I mean, I like the TWOK uniforms and all but the division colors were a pain to try and follow, at least for me.

So, I don't have a problem with only 3 colors, but I also can see the argument for divisions like Medical and Security having their own distinct color as well.

The real purpose of the service colours is not identification of duties, it is that they look nice on TV and break the monotonousness of the uniforms. Three is perfect number of colours for this, more would look garish. (And yes, I think Kirk's wraparound should have been the same colour as the regular command uniforms. The reason it wasn't was that it made it easier for the viewers to tell the two Kirks apart in 'The Enemy Within'.)

Concession to TV production limitations is also a consideration. The idea that the new series uniforms will not have to bend to some rules of Hollywood should not be a surprising one.

As for color schemes, I think it depends. This day and age there is a lot more flexibility with costuming and colors. Like I said, I think Medical and Security could afford to have their own costuming for a break up of the Bridge crew.

Not for me, by that point it didn't really matter since my focus has been on the main characters. Kirk and Spock had on white colors and McCoy had green. As for the new show, I think it would be great to honor the trek colors from TOS created by Bill Theiss of Avocado Green, Blue, and Red, there's no need to push the boundaries of colors for security or Medical. Medical is part of science; it should be blue, and security - policing the ship - falls with engineering. Command remains Avocado green. The new series shouldn't distance itself from its roots. As long as the uniforms are comfortable for however long the crew will travel is acceptable to me. TBH as soon as the first pics of the uniforms are posted, everyone will bend over backwards for this series.

How about a distinguish design but the colors remain the same, would that work? With this I think security could fall under the path of like a yeoman where the color track be either Avocado green, red, or blue. After the security person's tenor she/he may continue the higher paths of the individuals careers.
