U.S.S. Kelvin pic! (and more -- large images)

someone shoulda sat JJ down with a DVD of In a Mirror, Darkly and told him: LOOK! the old bridge still looks good. don't fuck with it!

all it needed was moving screens above the stations...

The Defiant bridge looked good ON TELEVISION. Big difference there.

It's the same reason the original Enterprise was heavily refitted for TMP, and the Ent-D was quickly destroyed when the first TNG movie came out. Those ships were made for TV, not films.

"That dog don't hunt" as the saying goes...all they would have had to do was update the little "finishing details" a bit. The basic design would have looked just fine on the big screen...

Hmm, I thought they had added earlobes to Quinto to match up better with Nimoy's ears? Of course this is probably just an early publicity photo...

"In A Mirror Darkly" showed us just how well the classic bridge and uniforms have stood the test of time. They looked GREAT.
It looked the same, and rather non-functional. I like the overall design of the original bridge, but a lot of the details are seriously lacking in production values, and don't look like any piece of sophisticated machinery an advanced technological culture would produce.

I'll buy the original bridge/interior in TOS. Any modern Trek? No way. It just isn't believable.

...that said, I think the original Enterprise exterior looks great and needs little or no modification whatsoever.

And don't tell me to "frak off". Your meaning is clear enough. This isn't TNZ, so keep a civil tongue in your head, as I have done.

Now one thing I'm not too certain of and I don't know if this was brought up or not. It said somewhere that the Romulan attack on the Kelvin takes place long before Kirk was born.

If I'm remembering that correctly, could that attack possibly be during the Earth-Romulan War?

Then again, I'm keeping an open mind and really don't care if they want to ignore continuity and start fresh. I'm all for it. :)

Re: U.S.S. Kelvin pic!

^ The Earth Romulan War took place during the flight of the NX-01. The Kelvin is supposed to be XOed by Kirk's dad so I doubt it.

I have to admit that the Kelvin is growing on me. The new bridge... not so much.

Oh, KIRK'S DAD, ok! I must have misread.

Re: U.S.S. Kelvin pic!

Where exactly is it stated that the attack on the Kelvin takes place at a time before Kirk's era in Starfleet/the Academy?

Re: U.S.S. Kelvin pic!

I like everything I see except the bridge and that ridiculous hostess podium.

The caption at EW states that the attack takes place before Jimmy was born, but take that as you will.

Well kinda did...(always ripping off my own files). threw this together after reading the spoilers months back about a "USS Kelvin... with over and under nacelles..." nothing really came of it other than the basic outlines here...while I tried to incorporate a second hull, the movie cap Kelvin appears to be little more than a saucer with upper and lower nacelles...they do seem to be "humped" like the trailer E....atleast the top one?...the bottom almost looks like a more familliar secondary hull shape?...hard to tell.

Like to throw in my 2 cents concerning the bridge caps...
My pet peeve: Pointless, swirly, "Sci-fi channel-ad-looking" screen displays, with pointless animated swirls and waveform graphs and dancing squares and every other layered flash animated looking nonsense thrown in...does that still look "kewl"????
Man, every movie since, I don't know, Minority report, Lost in Space, Iron Man, etc. etc. etc. has that "look"....i guess they are trying to make it look informative like a real HUD,....but....pleazzzzze...
why not something different...how about a "clean paper-white" background, with really thought-out dynamic display graphics and info? That *would* be very "Apple-ish" and "ipod-like" in a very cool way..clean.
those displays look like Leopard/Vista wallpapers or something...

one more thing, the plexiglass with giant "circut traces" look cheezy.
(won't even comment on the makeup mirror spotlights everywhere, or the... podium!...)
Ofcourse it may blow our minds on the big screen.

All of the above is as always and only my humble opinion, ofcourse.

Hey!
Stop it!

The young lady has only two lines in the whole movie!
She can't help it that one of them is, "Will that be smoking or non-smoking?"
So Stop The Hate!
:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Just looking at the full pic of the Kelvin again. If you follow what seems to be the ship's forward centreline (ie. passing through the "dash" between NCC and 0514 in the registry number) back through the bridge, then it looks like the entire dorsal nacelle/pod unit is canted or offset slightly to port. Could it be steerable, as per some nacelle related rumors from a few months back? (or have I been staring at the picture a bit too long?)

It just seems to me that the ship's forward centreline doesn't appear to quite line up with what appears to be the centreline of the pylon behind the bridge.

Frak off, Juan! I'd've rather had a (slightly 'modernized') version of the TOS bridge to go with those uniforms! "In A Mirror Darkly" showed us just how well the classic bridge and uniforms have stood the test of time. They looked GREAT.

Actually I thought they all looked like something that came from a 1960s show. It looked weird is all IMHO.

I now what you mean about the 'look'. Some are right when they say it looks like an Apple store.
I trust that it will look better in the trailer and the eventual movie, but right now it's too white and glassy.
Again, just because I think it could've looked more like the original bridge doesn't mean I want bloody punch cards coming out of slots. I know it's not 1968. I just would've nudged the set designer to use a little more black and red.
