U.S.S. Kelvin pic! (and more -- large images)

I really liked the bridge from the NX-01. I thought that it was one of the highlights of the show.

Agreed.

I will also agree that the NX bridge design was quite good. Ideally it would've had a touch more color, imo, but the NX sets were all very good.

EDIT:
As for it being too bright, maybe the bridge lighting changes during alert status.

Or when they cloak...oh wait, that was the Defiant.

All of the bridges, except the NX-01, mostly had warmer colors, not quite so jarringly white. I just feel like it is a flying iPod. I mean what are those strange glass walls behind Bones? It just seems like there is some extraneous stuff on the bridge. Star Trek bridges have always been about realistic function, not superfluous trinkets. This just seems way overcooked. And why does poor Uhura have to stand like a hostess at Chili's?

Hey hey... Leave my place of employment out of this.

If this bridge looks like an iPod the old TOS-bridge looks like an transistor radio... Fits perfectly in the era in which both were created. ;)

Hey, Rumsfeld used to stand at his desk all day and Uhura could probably complete his daily workload in 15 minutes AND look hot while doing it.

someone shoulda sat JJ down with a DVD of In a Mirror, Darkly and told him: LOOK! the old bridge still looks good. don't fuck with it!

all it needed was moving screens above the stations...

As will I. As will all those who say they won't. We KNOW every true fan will be there, I only hope the complainers aren't doing it in the cinema. I'm practicing my backhand just in case.

Sorry, but I've been a fan since I was little and I think this all looks really silly and out of place, so I probably won't be spending 8 bucks to go see it. That doesn't make me any less of a "true fan" than you, and I think your attitude is more irritating than any fanboy complainer could muster. Shame on you.
Shame on you for saying, "Shame on you." Next I guess my momma wears combat boots... I'll be glad to talk to you when you grow up. Meanwhile, go away while the grownups talk about our movie. If you hate it so much that you need to insult people, just go play in traffic or something. If you don't like my attitude... I'll meet you at rush hour in the middle of I-85. If I'm not there, feel free to fight a Freightliner instead of me. (That's a local joke, they make Freightliners at a plant a few miles from my house.:guffaw:)
OT: The truth is, most of the people who complain will go see it, if only to have more to complain about- it seems to be in their nature. I also don't want them doing it while I'm paying to enjoy it in the cinema. Around here people get put out of movie with no refund if they are disturbing others. If they get obstinate in the process, they get beat up or arrested. We take our movies seriously around here. :klingon:

I want a pic of the Romulan ship. An updated TOS Bird of Prey would be great.

Please Mr. master of the new ST universe release a pic of the new Romulan ship(s).

It only looks good to us fans.

The 'normal movie goer' would laugh his ass off...

On what do you base this? The bridge?

I base it on all of the recent photos we are discussing here. Absolutely nothing bears any direct visual connection with TOS. There are things *styled* after the Trek we know (uniforms and ships), but these clearly do not pre-date TOS in any way, shape or form. The production design is far more advanced than TOS.

The bridge graphics, for example, look more advanced and high-tech than TNG, just as USS Kelvin looks more like a TNG or movie era starship.

The uniforms don't look like they pre-date TOS...they look like a later, more sophisticated evolution.
So what? Did you expect to see primitive, 60's era graphics on the screens? Grinding computers with digitized voices? Cardboard control panels? The Kelvin looks fine for a pre-TOS era ship. I think you're mistaking high production values for over-advancement of technology. If Gene had had the choice back then, he'd have gone with these designs over the ones he was forced to go with, no question about it.

That's an interesting point.

Also, were Gene alive today there is no way he'd expect a big budget blockbuster summer movie to copy the same old shoestring budget sets from the 60's. They did what they did back then with limited money, and they did it well. Gene did the best with what he had.

If you gave Gene the same budget, I am certain he'd have improved them too. Would they look like this? Perhaps not.

But they would have looked f*ck all like those cardboard sets from the 60's

NOT.... UHURA!

It still looks over-worked. I mean my iPhone is simple, why does the bridge look so busy. I still cannot get over the hostess stand.

My biggest concern, (aside from the as yet unknown ability for these actors to achieve the chemistry of the Shatner and company), is how dramatically to accept Nimoy interacting with these people on this redesigned bridge set.

Even if there are no scenes of Nimoy on the Enterprise, it's kind of a mind flip to take it all seriously when we know Nimoy's Spock never set foot on a bridge that looked like that.

What I mean is that if Nimoy's Spock goes back in time, we'd expect him to show up on the bridge we are familiar with -- otherwise cast someone else as old Spock and re-imagine all you want...

If the time travel story needed Nimoy's Spock, it seems to me they should have kept the design of the ship basically the same, just updated the materials for the big screen in order to maintain the suspension of disbelief.

Considering the plot (or what we think it is), is it possible this is the alternate timeline bridge? Maybe it is overdone on purpose. Or maybe we will just have to deal with it.
Looking at all the released pictures, the lighting doesn't appear to have been adjusted for mood within the story. Often this is one of the last steps. I played with the brightness, contrast and mid-tones and found some interesting combinations.
