TWOK cut scenes excerpts...

That is right even Mr Mot should not view deleted scenes.
The highest crime should be for Mr Mot to view scenes of himself that were deleted.

Hey Guardian, is there more deleted stuff we should never see or read about?

Assuming your question is at least part serious...........

There are a few interesting buts from TWOK that are too small to excerpt easily.....

1. During the simulator scene there are two sets of Klingon ships attacking the 'Enterprise' (total 6)
I figure they didn't want to reuse the same stock footage too much.

2. During the Kirk/McCoy/glasses scene Krik actually puts on the glasses and McCoy tells him how to use them. I saw a still photo of this excerpt in a Starlog issue (or some period magazine) Kirk was reading the bottle of ale.
Kinda' silly having being told how to use glasses once he knew they were glasses.

3. During Chekov's intro voice-over there are different lines and he refers to himself as 'Duty-officer'
I imagine that after hearing Sulu was being promotted to captain he wanted a promotion to first officer. (Ironic that Sulu's promotion got cut.)

4. Just as Spock died and slumped they had an unaware Saavik saying over the intercom to Kirk how beautiful the new world was.
That could happen in real life but in cinema it would have ruined the mood.

Little stuff like that.

I don't have my script with me so i can't think of them all.
Let's see.....

I like to do them in order but I can only think of this.

After Scotty says, "I've got to take the mains off the line." He adds, "the energizer has shaken loose and I can't get in there to fix it> I'll need 10 minutes for the radiation to disapate."

In the movie he just blurts out, "It's radiation!!" as he collapses

Oh, the movie ends with Kirk going back to the captain's chair and ordering, "second star to the right........." etc.

But of course Meyer finally got to put the line back in for TUC.

A lot of good lines weren't in the final script but were added at the time of filming....

McCoy's "WE WILL" when Spock says, 'be careful'
MCCoy's "He's not really dead as long as we remember him"---which I inserted in my excerpt of the bridge finale to show where it fit in.

Kirk's entire, "I know none of you were expecting this......." speech when he orders warp speed. Along with Sulu's, "So much for the little training cruise."

I insist you stop. Since we must not ever see this, we must never know what it is we're never supposed to see.

There's nothing particularly good about the way the "she is half Romulan, Jim" scene plays out,

It explains to some degree why her performance is so all over the place, like the embarassing, "prepare for warp speed" line that sounds like Smilla has picked her up by the crotch.

The kirk spock scene is exceptionally charming, and snipping that exchange really hurts the way the scene turns when you see Kirk's face as the 'shuttle leaving' line is heard. I'd consider that a grievous cut, maybe the only grievous cut (outside of the whole original ending that is.)

Re: TWOK script excerpts Part 2

Not a ton of response for the first one, but I'll try one more batch............

A little bit at the end of the eel sequence/the entirely cut scene of Terrell tricking Beach into taking up 'guest's and the infamous Sulu promotion scene (they looped in replacement lines in the Sulu promotion scene after decinding to cut it. "I hate inspections" rather than, "I really must thank you" ETC.)

But the best alternate take was this one just before the eels are put in the helmets:

HERE

And even better than that was the alternate take of the revenge speech:

HERE

Atavachron ;)

Where the hell did you find those?:guffaw:

I always thought Alley was quite good in WOK.
Mispronunciations don't mean a bad perforance---she's using words that aren't that common in everyday use:
Gamma Hydra, Ceti Alpha etc.
They did wonders in the looping sessions i guess, because in the movie she seems quite good.

I was thrilled by Kirstie Alley and wasn't criticising her performance in the movie at all. But much of the ShoWest Presentation Reel stuff seems to be inferior quality alternate takes, with different hairstyles and performances, not just looped dialogue.

Glad to hear you liked her performance in the movie.
After viewing the showest trailer again recently it seems almost all the takes were inferior--meaning there might be better takes of some of the deleted scenes out there to see on the Blu-ray.

As for the Sulu promotion scene, the part that exists IN the movie seems to have a decent charming performance by shatner. The part about the promotion were no more than 5 or 6 lines combined. Sad to think he'd be so petty in those few lines. Maybe we'll see someday.

Once went to a convention with James Doohan after the 1985 ABC airing of WOK. Someone asked, "why did they cut the nice scene with you in the sickbay in the theatrical version?" The crowd applauded.

Doohan got mad and blurted out, "Because Bill Shatner asked them too." 'He's hates to be shown up by good acting!"
The crowd cheered.
100% true story.

But, it made no sense what he said. Mr Scott only lost 2 lines in the theatrical version.
"WHY?"
"i diina think so but you'll have my best"
Granted he did some nice emoting in the restored version.

But the vast majority of the restored scene featured restored lines by McCoy and especially Kirk---including the "we're only alive.." line.

what's more Shatner didn't seem to try and blow the take when Scott was breaking down.
I know Shatner has an ego and maybe he doesn't think the movies should waste time on the smaller chatacters, but the scnes he's accused of ruining are scenes where he himself has good lines.
I really wish we could see for ourselves.

You really want to see him rolling his eyes to deliberately ruin a take, if that's truly what he does?

Actor permissions must be sought before movie bloopers are released to the public. Any blown takes would be classed as bloopers, not alternate scenes. If it's a supposedly straight scene, with Shatner deliberately fooling around to create havoc for another actor, you reckon he'd sign off on it?

I've been assured he does it in such a way that his lines sound fine, but his acting partner is disconcerted by what looks like a blown take. According to angry actors, such behaviour limits the editor's choices to Shatner closeups over his fellow actor's closeups. If challenged, he says it's all in fun.

Many actors reported Shatner would often suggest dropping other actors' closeups from scenes, since the focus should be on him, as the star.

No, I wouldn't want to see takes where Shatner rolled his eyes or ruined it for the other actor.

I want to see decent takes IF they exist.
If any future release shows them--I assume they will be decent takes.

If decent takes exist, I will assume Takei was placing blame wrongly as I feel Doohan did in his statement.
If they never show that scene it could be because Takei was right OR that Paramount is just too lazy to dig them out assuming we will buy them again anyway.

By the way I guess most of us have heard that they ARE releasing a Box Set of 1-6 next year for sure.
No word on whether in the spring or fall, to coincide with either the theatrical or home video release of Trek 11

Yeah if the stuff doesn't include 'botched' takes I want to see it.

If they are purposely blown takes I think they demean the actors and the movie.

They wouldn't put that on a deleted anyway.

so if they shown them it should be regular stuff that just didn't fit into the movie for time or logic or mood or relavance.

To me the Sulu promotion just doesn't have any relavance to TWOK. That's why I think they really cut it. If that was the true reason, then maybe they should show it just to disprove takei's claim.
Heck if I was shatner & it WASN'T true--I'd say, 'I'm glad they showed that because I'm a professional and I do good work no matter the shots value to the movie, in my opinion.'

Secondly.........

Was that Doohan incident in North Miami in 1986?
I posted the exact same statement by Doohan a few years back.

Word for word almost. Doohan said that Shatner went to Bennett & Meyer and asked them to cut the sickbay scene down!!
Despite the fact that Shatner has 60% of the added back footage and it's a great scene for HIM !!

I just don't buy it. It's a great Kirk scene.

"Hey you know that nice scene Dee Kelley & I did after Preston dies? Cut it out because it has a couple of lines by Doohan that I don't want in."

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd like someone to ask Walter Koenig or Nick Meyer about the story of the black-faced stuntman that Therin says Paul Winfield told, and if it's accurate, since the script calls for Chekov to fall down, not Terrell, and I can't figure out why Meyer would change that since he wrote the final draft of the script.
