TV Stars Who Could Play Superman? Tom Welling in Consideration?

Then it is probably Brandon Routh again, which is fine by me. I mean that he is the only man alive that has any feature film Superman experience, and that is what should ultimately get him the role. Of course, that is also a double edged sword in the fact that said experience was Singer's "Love letter to Richard Donner."

Dark Horizons is reporting both Routh and Welling have stated they are open to taking the role. They linked to an interview with Roth, but nothing to where Welling said such, which is odd.

Actually I did see a video where Welling said he has always been open to playing Superman in a movie...Here! For some reason the video is being a pain to come up.

Yeah both Welling and Routh have stated their interest in playing the role and both have said that their fate and ultimately who the role goes to is up to Warner Bros and DC Ent. So I'm guessing we will get some kind of news on the new movie either by the end of the year or sometime early next year. This is just a gut feeling with nothing to base it on.

Perfect idea! Use them both! have one play the Earth-1 Superman and the other play Earth-2 Superman! They have to team up to stop the Anti-monitor!

Routh or Welling would go over well with many fans...bringing in someone new would just be breaking with SMALLVILLE & SR and so a clean slate...I don't think a clean slate is needed at this point...Many love SMALLVILLE and Tom and alot of people seem to want Brandon to get a second chance. Right now I think SMALLVILLE is tied to Reeve's Superman movies & SR...so if the Nolan's go with a break and cast someone else/the movie has a totally different feel from all previous Superman movies-TV...then we will have to accept it...but I don't feel it is necessary.

I do have a feeling we are getting something new and totally different though.

Your first guess is likely the right one.

There was a rumor about that guy from "Chuck" but apparently that's not whose being considered. That said, it is a "TV star" and... I dunno, the way this bit is phrased, it makes me think maybe Welling might actually be in consideration from the line "Your first guess is likely the right one."

Anyway, Welling aside -- what other TV stars could done the blue tights and red cape and become the Man of Steel?

There is no Welling aside for me. I've always wanted him to play Superman. Ever since I saw the episode Rosetta I knew it had to be Tom. When Brandon Routh was cast I was disappointed. Now let it be known that at the end of the day I ended up loving Routh. Let it also be known that I think Routh was perfect for Superman Returns and Tom Welling would have been a disaster. As it stands now Smallville is gearing up for a final season and as it looks right now a SUPER FINAL SEASON, so I think the time is right for Tom to transition off the small screen and onto the big.
