TV Stars Who Could Play Superman? Tom Welling in Consideration?

Clint Morris, the guy behind Moviehole who started this story, evidently put up on his Twitter page that the actor in question is either Jon Hamm or Jared Padalecki. He later took the Tweet down. Of course the online casting rumor mill has to be taken with a grain of salt, but rumors are all we have for now.

That will never happen unless it's a tv movie. My pick would be Matthew Bomer he looks the most Clark Kent/Superman-ish out of those listed. I still remember when we were all discussing the possibility that Tom Welling would be playing the young Clark Kent in Superman Returns based on someone posting what was supposedly a daily with his name on it. I don't think Tom would make a good Superman to be honest...Clark Kent yes but not Superman.

^ AR07, you're dead to me. :p
I also want to see Lana back with Clark one last time.

I kid. :p

I'm just curious about what a full-on Superman would look like in the Smallville universe. We got a glimpse of that in the season 9 finale and I wouldn't mind seeing more.

Bomer's under 6 feet and looks like he's 150 lbs. PASS.

Best idea would be to just rehire Routh. It saves time and the actor enjoys some goodwill for his previous work as the Man of Steel. And it is highly unlikely that audiences will start suffering conniptions once they realize that his second outing as Superman (should this become a reality) has little to do with Superman Returns.

It should be welling.

he fits the bill physically, and hes age 33 now, damn i cant belive that

but anyway should be him, he'll be past it soon belive it or not

But the problem is, Warner doesn't want the audience to think, even for a minute, that this is SUPERMAN RETURNS, PART II. And casting Routh would inevitably create that impression.

And casting Welling means that movie will inevitable be perceived as SMALLVILLE: THE MOTION PICTURE. With all the baggage that entails.

I actually liked Routh, but if the idea is to relaunch the franchise a la BATMAN BEGINS, you need to make a clean break with the past. Which means no Routh and no Welling.

If I was Welling I'd totally go for the role. There isn't much to look forward in his career post Smallville.

Unless he wants to dwell in Canada directing episodes of Stargate Universe and future Canadian shows

And that's nothing that can't be overcome by publicity and good word-of-mouth (plus a dynamite script, of course). A glass-half-full attitude would benefit Warner Bros. in this particular situation.

It would be an uphill battle, so why bother? Sure, maybe you could get the message across, but that would distract from your efforts to hype the new movie. Why handicap yourself from Day One?

Better to start with a clean slate . . . .

I don't trust Warner Bros. that much. A "clean slate" could mean Rainn Wilson suiting up as Superman.

That thought reminds me of those pictures from the set of the arthur remake with russell brand and Luis Guzman as batman and robin

If not Warner Bros., then Christopher Nolan.
