TV spot up on youtube

Here are some screenshots I took.

So we have Chris Pine as a blue 'Violet Beauregarde' chasing after Simon Pegg as 'Augustus Gloop' stuck in the pipes...
...I wonder when we will see Zoe Saldana as 'Veruca Salt' and Anton Yelchin as 'Mike Teavee'?

The problem is someone will ask if we've ever been to the future, and so how do we know how it will look? ;)

True. I'm just somewhat referencing current technology, what's in development, and extrapolating out where it's headed and future applications.

maybe it's a failure of imagination, but hydraulics seems like a field that will always require pipes and valves of some sort.

If Scotty is beamed into the boiler, wouldn't he die from the heat? I sure hope that's a cold water pipe. Of course, then he'd probably freeze. That must be the pool-temperature pipe. Maybe it'll dump him into the pool. Where lots of female crewmembers are waiting for him in non-regulation clothing.

And.... If Scotty beamed into a water pipe, however comfortable the water may be, wouldn't he drown? I mean, I hope he took a deep breath before energizing. Not to mention the thought of panic at having materialized under water. Within a pipe. That at least happend to be a perfect fit. Considering he was probably standing when energized, all in all, I'd say his luck was good that part of him didn't materialize outside of the pipe.

I'm beginning to think the beam into the Enterprise went well. Now, Kirk and Scotty have to get somewhere on the ship in a hurry without being spotted. Scotty, probably from knowing the ship from studying it afar, and of course being the comic relief, says they'll get where they want to go fastest if they just take a deep breath and jump into this water pipe. Before Kirk can say anything about how stupid that is, Scotty's on his way. The discussion over this also gives Kirk time to take his jacket off during the scene. Hey, why can't this be? :shifty:

the answers to these questions will quickly become the most hotly anticipated topic of the new movie. seriously, i'm perplexed. why is scotty in a pipe?

It's a huge water bong.

Pine standing there shouting doesn't look like he's reacting to something like a transporter "oops," and Scotty looks pretty motivated - as if he knows exactly where he is and why and what he's up to. So we'll see.

Not failure of an engineer's imagination - Just who's to say that hydraulics would even be used by that time (or for space travel applications).

^^I dunno -- I'm no expert in "future technologies", but I have a feeling piping will be part of "real" 23rd-century spaceships. I mean, why not?--Will there be a better way of moving liquids and pressurized gases in the future?

That's why I'm half serious about what I posted above. He's trying to get somewhere on the ship in the fastest way he knows how. Like using a huge pneumatic tube. (Which means, of course, there must be valves inside the pipe so he can get out.) I mean, to be honest, from the little we know, this Scotty seems like he may be a wee bit eccentric. And, we do know Scotty is unconventional and imaginative.

If he really materialized in that pipe and it's only done for the shits and grins of how he gets out of it, no matter how good the movie may have been to that point, I think I'll get up and walk out.

True. A doorknob is a doorknob in any century. A window's a window. And pipes are pipes. There are only so many ways some things can be done. I guess the "complaint" would be that it looks so, well, conventional. So of the now. And, so clunky.

Why so siberious?
Did you get up and leave the theater during Star Trek IV:TVH for the "Harrold Robbins/Ah, the Masters!" line?

I do agree with you in priciple -- I don't want to see too many 'throw-away/strictly for laughs' scenes either, but if they are dispersed more-or-less innocuously throughout, and are tied to the actual "story", then I think it will be OK.

Well, that's an exaggeration on my part. I wouldn't walk out. Just roll me eyes. As far as, "Ah, the giants," goes, a friend and I were about the only two in the theater that seemed to get that line. We both let out a quick laugh, then realized folks sitting around us were starring at us.

(And, thanks for making me Google "siberious." I learned a new word. :) )

^^ oops! You're right -- the line was "Ah, the Giants" and not "Ah, the Masters".

And, I quoted you before you could edit. :p By the way, your current avatar and the Abbey Road one have to be two of the best on this board. Just sayin'.

I guess overall it's just that from what little we've seen or heard about Scotty so far, I keep thinking of Groundskeeper Willy from The Simpsons. Probably not totally apt, but I do.

With Busby Berkeley-style water ballet and overhead camera POV?

I can't think of a good reason why not. It's occurred to me before now that Scotty might not be inside the pipe by accident.

The only thing I've hated about this movie so far is that horrible engineering room!!!!

RAMA

Thanks!
I was simply looking for a famous "group of three" picture that I could photoshop those heads onto, and the Three Stooges quickly came to mind. Same with the Abbey Road Avatar -- I was going to add Scotty as the "fourth", but it ended up looking better keeping George Harrison as-is.

I saw a brand new spot on MTV just now. It has more footage from the bar fight, platform fight, a new shot of a shuttle, and Kirk tossing keys to someone. It's a veeeeery action oriented spot complete with hard rock playing in the background.
