So we have Chris Pine as a blue 'Violet Beauregarde' chasing after Simon Pegg as 'Augustus Gloop' stuck in the pipes...Here are some screenshots I took.

...I wonder when we will see Zoe Saldana as 'Veruca Salt' and Anton Yelchin as 'Mike Teavee'?

The problem is someone will ask if we've ever been to the future, and so how do we know how it will look?![]()
True. I'm just somewhat referencing current technology, what's in development, and extrapolating out where it's headed and future applications.
If Scotty is beamed into the boiler, wouldn't he die from the heat? I sure hope that's a cold water pipe. Of course, then he'd probably freeze. That must be the pool-temperature pipe. Maybe it'll dump him into the pool. Where lots of female crewmembers are waiting for him in non-regulation clothing.
And.... If Scotty beamed into a water pipe, however comfortable the water may be, wouldn't he drown? I mean, I hope he took a deep breath before energizing. Not to mention the thought of panic at having materialized under water. Within a pipe. That at least happend to be a perfect fit. Considering he was probably standing when energized, all in all, I'd say his luck was good that part of him didn't materialize outside of the pipe.
I'm beginning to think the beam into the Enterprise went well. Now, Kirk and Scotty have to get somewhere on the ship in a hurry without being spotted. Scotty, probably from knowing the ship from studying it afar, and of course being the comic relief, says they'll get where they want to go fastest if they just take a deep breath and jump into this water pipe. Before Kirk can say anything about how stupid that is, Scotty's on his way. The discussion over this also gives Kirk time to take his jacket off during the scene. Hey, why can't this be?![]()
I'm bet it's simply for audience 'shits and giggles'...seriously, i'm perplexed. why is scotty in a pipe?

maybe it's a failure of imagination, but hydraulics seems like a field that will always require pipes and valves of some sort.
It's a huge water bong.
Pine standing there shouting doesn't look like he's reacting to something like a transporter "oops," and Scotty looks pretty motivated - as if he knows exactly where he is and why and what he's up to. So we'll see.

^^I dunno -- I'm no expert in "future technologies", but I have a feeling piping will be part of "real" 23rd-century spaceships. I mean, why not?--Will there be a better way of moving liquids and pressurized gases in the future?
Why so siberious?...If he really materialized in that pipe and it's only done for the shits and grins of how he gets out of it, no matter how good the movie may have been to that point, I think I'll get up and walk out.

Did you get up and leave the theater during Star Trek IV:TVH for the "Harrold Robbins/Ah, the Masters!" line?
I do agree with you in priciple -- I don't want to see too many 'throw-away/strictly for laughs' scenes either, but if they are dispersed more-or-less innocuously throughout, and are tied to the actual "story", then I think it will be OK.

^^ oops! You're right -- the line was "Ah, the Giants" and not "Ah, the Masters".
By the way, your current avatar and the Abbey Road one have to be two of the best on this board. Just sayin'.With Busby Berkeley-style water ballet and overhead camera POV?If Scotty is beamed into the boiler, wouldn't he die from the heat? I sure hope that's a cold water pipe. I can't think of a good reason why not. It's occurred to me before now that Scotty might not be inside the pipe by accident. If Scotty is beamed into the boiler...
