TV spot up on youtube

Well those pipes are a nice clue of what engineering will look like!

Are you really sure that the pipes are located in the U.S.S. Enterprise's engineering? Could they not also be part of Delta Vega's lithium cracking station or of the place Scotty was banished to?

I take everything back...

On trekmovie.com, it is written that
  • Scotty [is] trapped inside water pipes on board the Enterprise after beaming on board from Delta Vega.
  • Kirk [wears the] jacket had on when he and Scotty beamed in from Delta Vega.
  • Kirk (now without jacket) [tries] to figure out how to get [Scotty] out of the Enterprise water pipes.
  • [This] explains why [Scotty] appears wet when he utters his "I like this ship… it's exciting" line.

Just read that. I can't believe the debate over the pipes!

Here are some screenshots I took.

New Spock pic.

I'm just glad he finally closed his mouth.
Sorry I couldn't resist, I find Spock's Sweater really dorky looking.

He borrowed it from the closet of Wesley Crusher.

I'm just glad he finally closed his mouth.

I think Scotty got flushed down the river of booze by Willy Wonka's booze factory pipe.

"I regret nothiiiiiiiiiii"

I'm just glad he finally closed his mouth.

I'm not quite sure I know what that means.

check out Quinto's promo shots from anything. heroes or Trek or anything independent. he tends to keep his mouth pursed and slightly open. sort of like female models do. I like the guy but he irritates me no end when I see him doing that. in this picture, it seems he hadn't ;)

The scene ends when Kirk uses a plunger to pull Scotty out through a toilet. That's my guess.

Rick Sternback posted over at Trekmovie (#193), apparently his pool pump is more advanced than the Enterprise plumbing system. Which isn't hard, they seem to have gone with steampunk for that.

he's still thinking to himself, "you only hate me because i'm beautiful"

evidently Kirk's got that mouth open thing going on ^^^^

I just read the first 70 or so comments and had to quit. I thought my brain was going to develop a cramp. May go back and slog through another chunk later.

That’s right Scotty contaminate the Enterprise’s water supply! You realize people are going to be drinking from that? How many Umpa Lumpas is it going to take to decontaminate the water?

Kirk is not happy about this.

Maybe it looks better on screen, but in my personal opinion this shot looked a little cheesy in the trailer and is sort of the "downer" moment for me. THat's just me though, will probably look tons better in the full scene I'm betting though. Other than, this is very good they showed this during Monsters Vs. Aliens and the Kids Choice Awards.

Of course, we're assuming here it's a scene immediately after they beam aboard the Enterprise. ;) It probably is the case, and yes, it could be awkward. (I had the same feeling about the timing and description of Kirk's scene where his hands swell up and he gets tongue-tied.)

Beaming to the Enterprise follows what will probably be a very moving scene between Kirk and old Spock. "Man, that was heavy," says one of the writers. "Yes. We need a little levity to lighten things up," says the other. "I know, instead of a clean beaming, let's have Scotty beam into the ductwork of the Enterprise. Better yet, its water system and he flows through it like a fish until he pops out." "Hey, that's funny. It kinda reminds me of Augustus Gloop stuck in pipe in Willy Wonka. Let's do it."

Poor Scotty. Killed Archer's dog and now beams himself into the water pipes. We're not exactly catching him at his best.

The pipes look silly, but it's no big deal.

Agreed. And, there were pipes in the corridors of the Enterprise in TUC. The look is the look. Some things work. Some, not so much. At least there are no (obvious) pressure gauges or steam coming from them.

Still, Scotty being flushed through those pipes like a dead goldfish is one of those things that "better" work. That is, it'd be nice to think he's in those pipes for a reason (a weird but necessary way to perform a "miracle," perhaps), and not just for a (cheap) laugh. But I'm afraid they're going for the cheap laugh.

For some reason, seeing Scotty going through those pipes brings this to my mind

The pipes, I can't say I'm too fond of. We'll see, we'll see...

Also, I agree, the pipes do look silly, but not a big deal. As to the (cheap) laugh, I have a sneaky suspicion it is. The delivery of Scotty's "I like this ship" is a bit silly, too. I don't mind laughs in Trek, though. It was always there.

True. And Trek has had its share of humor that works and groaners. For some reason, seeing Scotty in the pipes and Kirk's reaction to him made me think of the scene in TVH where Spock dives in with the whales in order to mind meld with them. Kirk's reaction to that is priceless. The whole scene is played for comedy. But Spock had an important reason for doing it. A lot of the comedy in TVH was that way. It fit into the story.

On the other hand, as SalvorHardin alluded to above, Scotty's trek through the pipes smacks of the same thing as bumping his head in TFF. Purely gratuitious under the guise of comic relief. Eh. We'll see. We'll see.

Yes we will.

Gosh I hope this movie doesn't have any groaners. I always think as much or more should be spent writing a film as is done to create the effects
