Troop & Cargo Carriers

Handyman

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Just an idea I've been tooling around with of late.

Rendered in iRay.
Just a fast surfaces treatment. I'll do the actual meshes and UV later.
Still working at understanding Daz. Can't seem to get the canopy glass translucent enough to see the figures.
Only the glass was material ed so no other details yet.
The turbine intakes on the side of the fuselage have a fan inside. I'm quite proud of that. I had to think about how to render it in Hex and it came to me after only one other try.
There is a VTOL exhaust on the rear of the turbine engine that is independent of the model and if I decide to pursue this idea further, will be rigged for movement.
I'm also working on articulating landing legs.
Otherwise it's your arguably standard ST type warp drive vessel.

There are some great design elements in that ship. I really like the glass nose, looks like a B29 Bomber nose. But now I'm thinking here are all the Civilian ships? Is anyone playing around with designs for civilian ships?

As a troop carrier, the vessel would probably need to enter a larger ship's shuttlebay. It's large wing span might make it too big to fit. Probably the same for a cargo carrier. Thoughts on its mission profile/uses.

I'm pretty sure this thing would have fit in the main shuttlebay of a Galaxy class starship.

Width is okay, but bay height is kind of tight. Do those nacelles drop down by any chance?

I've actually been redesigning the fuselage a tad.
The fuselage was widened a bit and the pylons are tighter in to the fuselage and slightly lower so the warp engines sit about the same height as the rocket launchers now and the foot print is about 20% narrower.
The warp engines were reduced in size as well but the length was left as is.
They look more proportional now.
It's slightly less than 45' wide and 16' to the tops of the warp engines when sitting static on the deck.

She's scaling out at 56' long x 41.3 wide x 16.3' on legs.

"Reaper, Arbiter.
"I can't fit my girl in your bay and I can't get any closer to the bay door than I am right now.
I'm gonna have to drop the cargo for you to pull in manually."

"Roger that Reaper."

Could you make the pylons pivot on both ends? It could allow for them to fit in tighter shuttlebays like on an Intrepid Class starship?

I'm actually going to look into installing fans in the wings and see how they fit. I like that concept better than the directional turbo thrusters on the sides of the fuselage.
I could probably redesign the warp engine so they mount from their sides on the wingtips rather than on the tops of the wing tips.
I'll have to boost up the thickness of the wings though to support the amount of weight.
Now that would be an interesting thought. I'll have to look into that.

About half way through the design process for the gear now.
Really pleased with it so far.
Found it on the Internet and loved it.
Thought about redesigning it but it fits the ships purpose so well I decided to just go with it.
Can't take credit for the actual design, just the hours redrawing it.
Can't give credit for the design because I have no idea who did it.
When complete, it will fold up and drop down on it's joints.

I now have an excellent idea for the rear as well.
Looking forward to getting to that as well.

The gear is near done now.
Hopefully, I'll get it tweaked, textured and rigged by the end of the week.

Looks like I'm gonna have to extend the nose out a bit to accommodate the gear hydraulics.

Looking at this just made me wonder if a certain design on Discovery might also be intended to carry cargo/troops on the bottom of it. And that's all I'll say about that.

In an ongoing effort to reduce the Reapers over all imprint size so as to allow her to enter some of the smaller starship bays, radical changes were made to the wings and warp engines.
She now occupies a volume space of 34.3' width x 17.5' height x 53.2' length
I'd love some ops & comts on the design.
