Trek XII Will NOT Be A Remake

Soooo thankful for this.

If you want Wrath of Khan, go watch Wrath of Khan. It's that simple. I'm pumped for something new!

Ditto. Nothing wrong with reusing Khan, Augments and the Eugenics Wars in a later movie or TV project...but let's not make film #2 in the new timeline be a Khan film. It'd be too easy, lazy and disappointing in many respects.

I wonder how much cash Star Trek has made for Paramount in 44 years, including moichendising, etc.

It's the studio's most profitable franchise in terms of licensed sales and second-most profitable film franchise after the INDIANA JONES movies.

And as opposed to owning all things Trek, Paramount only owns the movie distribution rights to Indy, right? Lucas owns the rest of the franchise?

I vaguely remember a story on NPR on the release of ST09 and the reporter touched on the question of how much the entire Trek franchise has made for Paramount.
Everyone she asked, from industry experts to executives at Paramount said no one knows for sure exactly how much money has been made on all things Trek over the last 40+ years. There are only estimates and outright guesses.

Franklin, well that is interesting; thanks. So somebody besides me has wondered. It's got to be many billions, hasn't it? In 44 years...

Some time ago I wondered aloud to my husband about why in the world Leonard Nimoy would make that album with Bilbo Baggins on it; and he posited that "they" knew fans still had a buck-fifty in their pockets and were determined to get it.

I've heard that, too, with "they" either being Paramount, all those associated with Trek in general, or even Gene Roddenberry specifically.

But they didn't get my buck-fifty for Bilbo. I gotta draw the line somewhere. I have some standards.

What would it be remaking?

Did you read my post? Please elaborate if you'd like me to answer yours. There's a breakdown of communication here.

Yes I did. What would they be remaking just by using Khan? Khan will do whatever the writers want him to...

Exactly so.

People read a lot more into public statements than are there. Later on, if Khan does show up as the villain in the next film, there will be people running around claiming "the screenwriters lied to us!" when in fact they haven't ruled out Khan at all - I've seen it before.

Yeah...I had an allowance at that point; and I'm guessing were it between Bilbo and a Beatles album, I would not have been quite that big a Star Trek fan.

Of whom I will be the Chief!

Consider this: if they DID do Wrath of Khan again, how many films in a row would that make involving the very tired old cliche of revenge?

XI : Nero's Revenge
X : Shinzon's Revenge
IX : Ruafo's Revenge
VIII : Picard's Revenge

... and then we hit Generations... in which Soran wasn't actually getting revenge, was he? He just wanted to get into the Nexus.

Anyway my point is we don't need 5 films in a row that deal with revenge fantasies. It's sad enough that we have four. There are other stories to tell!

Yeah but, "This time...it's personal!"

Khan would only need about 5 minutes to figure out some slight that needed avenging...

I think it would have to be a new reason how Khan will get into the Nu Universe maybe they come across the sleeper ship would that be the same as what happened in Space Seed what do you think?

Well, of course they'd want to introduce Khan as a character new to Kirk and Spock - so, no "revenge."

Exactly. Some people are confusing the idea of re-using Khan as a character (which hasn't been ruled out) with the idea of reusing the storyline of "The Wrath of Khan" (which more or less has been ruled out.)
