Trek 2017 TV Show Teaser

The Praxis thing make sense but why would that other star be Amargosa? I know Praxis explodes in 2293 and the energy ribbon arrives in Federation space at the same time but Soran didn't destoy that star untill 79 years later when the ribbon would return again. I don't what importance it would have in this new series?

Some people wanted to lend credence to the idea that the series takes place after TUC. Praxis is from TUC and Amargosa is from Generations, the next movie.

It's a little flimsy.

People are already not going to watch the show because they used the phrase "New Villains" in a trailer?

Crews is what gets me. It must be two ships because its not going to be an anthology..too expensive.

4. "New crews", and a split Trek emblem. - My personal guess: Not an anthology show, but either set on multiple starships (a bigger and a smaller one) or on both a starship and a stationary point (space station, colony). Or delving deeper into compartmentalisation. Or just a typo. But I doubt that.

5. "New villains", "new heroes", "new worlds" - pretty obviously not a prequel. Either a continuation of TNG era or the new movies. Or a new "broad-strokes"-continuity out of both.

Though, if I squint a bit and go with what I hope for a bit....post Hobus prime universe dealing with the fallout,

Praxis was also in STID and the tv trailer looks way more like the video in the link above. There's no reason to think it came from the prime timeline. It also could be centered around the destruction of Hobus, which also looks like the star and had a destroyed planet associated with it..

Hmm Events post Praxis AND post Hobus supernova seem to me too to be what the Easter Eggs are suggesting. They could start the story (one crew) post TUC, fallout from Praxis, building drama then eventually flash forward (division in logo) to the Hobus disaster, (new crew) eventually tying the two events together.

The Armagosa star may be indicated but how it would easily fit without a sledgehammer escapes me.

I don't think that the series will take place during the Praxis disaster, but it will possibility start during that time period and continue on through the century, maybe beyond, going through multiple ships, stations, crews, heros, and villians, kind of like Roots and How the West Was Won type thing.
Praxis and Amargosa has nothing to do with each other, Praxis was already distroyed at lease a year or more before the Nexus energy ribbon came, But Praxis and the Romulan star going nova could have something to do with each other. That if both were deliberately, instead of a accident, (Praxis) and Nature (Romulan Star) ?
If that the cast? Then whom ever distroyed both Praxis and the Romulan star, are the same people, and they are enemy of both the Klingons and Romulans, and they are on the opposite side of both Klingons and Romulans empire from the Federation; And maybe would be the cost of the Klingons asking the Federation for a peace treaty with them and the Federation. And cause the Romulans is also ememies of the same emeny that the Klingons are ememies of, that the Federation ask them to join in. Which will allow them to build a star base that will house Crews and their families from all three powers, a center base for their starships, which they themself will have their own crew and will be sent out on their own mission and the series will not just ficture episodes of the starbase, but will ficture episodes of missions that those starships go own. Which could be episodes of missions that different starships are sent on, and those episodes will focus on that starship mission, regardless if it's Klingons, Romulans or Federation.

I can't believe I just read 12 pages worth of posts about the new show, and nobody yet played the childish "I won't pay for Star Trek!!!!!" card.

Just a thought on the "New crews" bit. Could it be simply because all the other new things were plural and they wanted everything to match? It sounds weird but I don't see why it isn't possible.

I've said so in other threads. I won't pay for CBS Access to watch commercials. Nor will I pay for a higher tier to not watch commercials. Either get rid of the commercials for the non-tiered, single rate of $6 for everyone, or make it free like real TV and have commercials. Otherwise, I'll pay for it on DVD.

If you're paying for the service then why do they need to show advertisements....?

If you buy a magazine or newspaper, why does it still have ads in it? Why did paperback books used to include cigarette ads?

To increase revenue and improve the bottom line.

Same old, same old.

That's why you should drink SlugO Cola, it's not the same old, same old.

The same reason when you pay for USA, TNT, FX, SyFy, and ESPN they have ads in it. Because the subscription fee doesn't cover the costs or provide the revenue the owners want.

I paid about 3 times what CBS is asking, just for one midnight screening of Star Wars. The movie itself didn't end up starting until 12:35, because we had exactly one trailer, a 'last chance to go to the candy bar!' message, and 25 fucking minutes of ads for various insurances, cars, and Foxtel.

CBS isn't that bad.

Do the theaters continue to charge you each month for Star Wars? If your dreams came true and there were a Star Wars movie each month, and each one cost your example of $18, a lot people simply can't afford it. A lot of people can't afford to see it ONCE. Star Wars or Star Trek are just not an unlimited resource to most people. Your comparison disregards economy, budget, income, and that the models and considerations of recurring versus singular events are completely different.

Which is why Star Wars and Star Trek aren't considered 'necessities.' If FOX could make the Star Wars once-month-model work for them financially, then they're perfectly entitled to do so. Even if it doesn't suit me personally.

If CBS releases the eps in weekly instalments, you'd spend about 1/3.of what it originally cost to get one season of TNG on DVD. If they release the whole series at once Netflix-style, you'll spend about 1/10.

Considering that prior to '09, I pretty much would have had to get an advertisement-riddled AUSTAR subscription for reruns of 40-year old Trek episodes (that I'd be able to watch only once), a 'two cups of coffee' subscription for the entire new series + all the original series, doesn't sound that bad to me.
