Trek 2017 TV Show Teaser

I'm convinced that competent graphic designers no longer exist. All I see nowadays is busy, over embellished logos and fonts and this is one of them. I'm hoping it's all just a placeholder because they need to try harder.

Having the main seven characters or whatever split up between different ships/locations could be a really great way to build the world in a way past shows haven't. Especially if it follows a more serialized format than past shows.
I think Farscape and nuBSG both experimented with multiple ships/crews a little bit. It worked okay for those shows.

Yeah multiple storylines in different locations can work well, I'm thinking Helo on Caprica in BSG season 1.

By the way, why is it 'premiering on CBS' and 'coming to CBS All Access'? I thought it was just the latter.

Give people a taste with the first episode for free then reel them in with the rest as paid content.

^ IIRC, the first episode was going to be shown on regular network TV (hence 'premiering on CBS'), and then subsequent episodes would only be available on All Access.

ETA: Ninja'd. This was actually in response to @cultcross .

They went to warp inside a star system, don't they know how dangerous that is?

In all seriousness though, other than "new crews" it doesn't actually tell us anything that we didn't already know. Even knowing that and accepting it logically, it still excites me!

Could that destroyed moon be Praxis? If so, that might have something to do with the rumor of it taking place in the aftermath of ST6.

That plus the "new crews" bit makes it look to me like Faraci's scoop may have been right on the money.

Meh, for the same reason the folks in ancient Egypt didn't count down the years and append "B.C." to them. We've been calling the original series TOS for around thirty years now.
might be wrong but wasn't there a period in the 90s when TOS was being referred to as 'Classic Trek' or 'Trek Classic?' or at least there seemed to be an attempt to have it called that on merchandise etc.(probably due to the Classic Coke thing?) Maybe the VHS reissues in the late 90s with the 3eps per tape being called "The Original Series" sealed the 'TOS' label? I'm not sure

Going further back, Babylon 5 had a good run when everyone was split up.

Everyones assumed Praxis so far. Burning star, broken planet with green-ish haze... am I the only one seeing a more recent catastrophe?

I see mostly reused (or inspired) images from the closing credits of the last two Trek movies used for a TV promo...might have better luck reading tea leaves to find any "clues" that could be hidden in there, IMO.

I loved those credits.

Probably not, I thought they simply tried to show visuals that look different from the peaceful earth and moon at the start.

I vaguely remember it being called "classic" but I think TOS won because it really fits the three letter abbreviation thing that started with TNG and was continued with DS9/DSN, we even got VOY and ENT.

This teaser is ... well, it's a teaser, it really doesn't tell is anything but it's nice that CBS did something for the upfronts despite not having any clips or cast to show off.

Or "Star Treks" since it covers new crews, new civilizations.....boldly going where, well...

Casual Viewer: There's a book series? I just want to watch the television or cable series. I don't care about any book series. I shouldn't have to understand a television series from the books; it should stand on its own.;)

And planets.....and ships...and different crews.
I was thinking of the New Voyages fan films. Although there was the whole domain name thing with Beyond.

My 2 cents:

1. Oh boy! Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy! Oh boy!

2. Zooming through different space anomalies and stuff - obviously somewhat cheap cgi, won't re-appear in the final series, but is there to establish tone. Somewhat resembles the JJ. Abrams movies (who themselves resembled the older opening credits). Close enough in style to draw in the movie crowd, too different to confirm JJverse at this point.

3. New font - obviously inspired by TOS (aka the tone Bryan Fuller wanted to strike). But obvious alternations to not resemble the JJ-movies font OR any other previous Trek font (TOS-movies, TNG-era shows)

4. "New crews", and a split Trek emblem. - My personal guess: Not an anthology show, but either set on multiple starships (a bigger and a smaller one) or on both a starship and a stationary point (space station, colony). Or delving deeper into compartmentalisation. Or just a typo. But I doubt that.

5. "New villains", "new heroes", "new worlds" - pretty obviously not a prequel. Either a continuation of TNG era or the new movies. Or a new "broad-strokes"-continuity out of both.

6. "golden" Insignia. Note: the TOS-era star insignia from the very first teaser poster has vanished. The biggest indicator for me yet that they try to distance themselves from both the JJmovies and the TNG-era, while simultanously pick up audiences of both of those.

7. No subtitle yet. Pretty sure it will get one. Shows you how early this teaser is. At this point they are probably still trying and adapting the tone and general feel of the new show. Quite colourfull! But still mostly "realistic" and scientific with the imagery (nebula, stars, ice-planet).

I like it!

I also really like the idea of focusing on more than one crew in a larger story rather than an anthology series, and I hope that's what we get. I hope a modern Trek will look similar to modern TV in general with multiple storylines, characters, and locations while all being a part of a larger arc.

What we see in the teaser is obvioulsy the destruction of Romulus ... I wonder if the series will actually deal with that. The disappearance of a major player in this quadrant might have very interesting consequences. It would certainly be in line with Nick Meyer's comment about TUC as a reference.

And we could have guest appearances by pretty much anyone from the TNG era!
