Making the sets look like TOS when Kirktakes over is not Stupid.
Yes it is, a modern show cannot look like a 60s tv show, that would be beyond ridiculous.Making the sets look like TOS when Kirktakes over is not Stupid.
I see your analogy as backwards with TOS being the DumbPhone & SNW being the SmartPhone equivalent analogy.![]()
This is how I see it. Fewer unnecessary details does not mean less advanced. A smaller size does not mean less believable.
Only problem it that visually, it'll look like this.![]()

It's a poor use of resources. Kind of stupid.Making the sets look like TOS when Kirktakes over is not Stupid.
That is far too advanced of a phone to be analagous to TOS.LOL, fixed that for you

The Screen around the user's chair looks programmable & configurable based on interface needs.Top one is a old phone, with awkward buttons. The bottom image has a more usable interface and the screens aren't angled away from the person using the console. They don't have a big curvy light right in their eyes the whole time either.
But the purely fixed buttons look like the 1950's / 1960's computer interface era.I'm not saying that you can put the old set on screen as it is and it'll look more advanced, it wouldn't, it'd look like a fan film. But most of the 'advanced technology' here is just sticking lights on everything and having a shiny floor.
Have you seen modern Automotive interfaces with too many touch screens that make it unsafe / unintuitive when driving?Edit: I'm not dissing the SNW set design, my jaw hit the ground when I first saw the bridge in Disco.
The TOS version?Only problem it that visually, it'll look like this.

Blinking lights with no purpose is a TOS staple.I'm not even really arguing for them to rebuild the old sets, I'd be happy with them just ending with the possibility of a refit or a shot of the TOS ship from the outside. But y'all are bringing out your phones so I feel like making some comparisons to show what I mean.

Top one is an old phone, full of extra stuff because it looks cool. It's got a stylish angular screen, plus lots of lights and details and lines and etc.
Bottom one is a newer phone. It has exactly what it needs and no more. It's less flashy but more realistic.

Most of TOS's blinky lights are at least placed low enough for people to have a hope of reading what they indicate. These seem to have been put up there to add a bit of sparkle to the bridge.Blinking lights with no purpose is a TOS staple.
That was my impression of much of the TOS displays depending on the set, and several TNG setsMost of TOS's blinky lights are at least placed low enough for people to have a hope of reading what they indicate. These seem to have been put up there to add a bit of sparkle to the bridge.

It's rigid, not flexible, not programmable, not even with a generic KB interface style.
