They knew what their limitations were so they knew what the final product would look like.

Clearly you have never worked in show business, my friend.
They knew what their limitations were so they knew what the final product would look like.
Canon is never as absolute, definitive, or rigid as many fans seem to think. It's not some formal policy handed down from on high; it's just the current creators' assumptions as to what parts of the franchise's past they choose to consider "real." So the definition of canon changes all the time, and tends to reflect whatever the most recent interpretation is.
I mean, why believe that Flint's mansion "really" looked like the Rigel VII fortress, right down to the same coastline and the same planets in the sky? Why believe that the Tantalus penal colony looked just like the Delta Vega lithium cracking station with a few modifications? Why believe the Aurora looked like a Tholian ship with Starfleet nacelles stuck on by Klingon battlecruiser wings? I don't think it makes sense to take any of those visuals literally. They were just the best approximations of the intended reality that the production crew could manage with limited resources. The TOS-R versions are probably a better reflection of the intent of the original stories.
Is that a word?canonicity
It hasn't nor should it be; the original version is History, and should be (and indeed is) available as such.Has the original been thrown on the proverbial scrapheap much like George Lucas' original effects with Star Wars
Laugh at me if you want. It doesn't matter what they may have originally envisioned. It matters what they were able to do with what they had at hand within the amount of time available. And thus they knew what they could accomplish and what the end result would look like. And that's what got onto film and broadcast and is the original version of the series. They knew what their limitations were so they knew what the final product would look like.
Clearly you have never worked in show business, my friend.
Not YOU, Warped, what you're saying.Laugh at me if you want.
It matters a great deal. Have you never started a project of some kind, and been the least bit disappointed at the difference between what you'd set out to do VS. the final product??It doesn't matter what they may have originally envisioned.
Nonsense. FX is not a science, it's an art. Limit the time & available resources, and any art can come short of the artist's intentions. And thus they knew what they could accomplish and what the end result would look like.
Up there with some from Logan's Run & Beneath The Planet Of The Apes!I definitely approve of the cases where they replaced recycled stock footage with new designs. The TOS-R version of Flint's mansion not only makes far more sense than the recycled Rigel fortress, but is possibly the most gorgeous matte painting I've ever seen.
No such thing. It's all in fun.snotty, self-righteous laughing smileys
Maybe the R in TOS-R show mean reimagined.
Canon is all filmed Trek approved by CBS/Paramount. If you're talking about continuity, then explain how the changes altered the stories or characters. They can't both be canon, look at where the remastering team completely threw out the original conceived ideas and shots, the scenery such as Dagger of the Mind, space ships such as Spock's Brain and the planet changes in various episodes. It conflicts with each other, I hate to see Memory Alpha taking sides, the website clearly favours TOS-R and merely renders the original effects footage to background trivia. I despise the originally produced effects being replaced in such a drastic way, I wish the remastering team didn't take liberties, they were meant to be respecting the designs of the show and yet they Lucas it up at times, ''Oh look an extra jawa in the foreground''. My point being that once upon a time the original show was canon now with all this tinkering the remastering seems to be the ''ultimate'' viewing of TOS as it's branded.

Really reaching there...![]()

Then an official novelization or comic book adaption couldn't be considered "cannon" either, due to differences or complete lack of precisely reproduced visuals, eh?They can't both be canon
Some peeps need to be told what to respect, I guess.I've never had trouble applying my own imagination and judgment to decide for myself.
NOVELTY??? LOL, for the first time in a LONG time I am watching these eps OVER & OVER!!! I've seen Doomsday Machine maybe 15 times since I purchased the new set!!!I guess the novelty of it is fine for awhile.
Novelty my Andorian BUTT!!!
EVERY time I see ANY shot of Enterprise I gasp!!! TOS-R with new FX is WHY I got my Art Asylum/Diamond E & spent two weeks re-painting it!! It's WHY my Son & I are reading John Byrne Trek comics!! It's WHY we built the Polar Lights model together!!!
Show me my FAVOURITE spaceship of ALL-TIME in crystal clarity while watching my beloved Trek stories that I've grown up with, and tell me it's somehow "novelty???"
Sorry, but that's laughable.
