Its a personal opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
Best BB or Facebook message I've read this week. For your first few films, maybe. But at some point you learn how to finish what you start, or not start what you can't finish. Reach exceeding your grasp is only an excuse if you fail to learn how long your arms are.![]()
To be fair the detractors of Cawley's group they have something of a history of abandoning projects, be it a few NV episodes and vingettes, Wild Wild West or Buck Rogers. I am sure that someone could make a good case for letting go of each of these, but it is a bit of a pattern.
You don't think releasing an unlicensed work that violates published guidelines wouldn't piss off the IP holder and jeopardize the portion of the IP (IE the Star Trek TOS set tour they now have licensed by CBS) said IP holder did license to you?I understand New Voyages is dead but at the very least releasing Torment of Destiny as a final episode would be a good gesture and most likely not be pushing too far. It just seems like such a waste having several completed episodes lying around unseen.
I thought another reason is that he was in Stsr Trek(2009)?And, as I've said before, I believe that James' new license as the Star Trek The Original Series Set Tour prohibits him from making/releasing fan films. So for him, the "just comply with the new Guidelines" workaround isn't really an option.
He was still putting out episodes in years subsequent to that movie...I thought another reason is that he was in Stsr Trek(2009)?
Yes but the new guidelines were not out then.He was still putting out episodes in years subsequent to that movie...

AFAIR, all new scripts will be written. They've also granted him a license for the Star Trek Film Academy...so they are allowing him to oversee the creation of new material. James has said the end product of each "class" would be a 15 minute film [short].
Wonder if the plots could be reused for the film academy shorts...
Actually, if you read what they said, it's something more akin to the old 'Star Trek Experience' at Universal Studios' where guests/visitors will have a chance to shoot on the sets (with the crew there) - and they'll have a video to take with them of said experience.AFAIR, all new scripts will be written.
James Cawley said that it would be a week of involvement with filming.
