Well, if you're all just going to give up, then you don't deserve to be in Starfleet. However, like Kirk before me, I don't believe in no-win scenarios.
Just stop. When it's you against the word of the law and a stable of lawyers, you're gonna lose, every time.
Maybe just maybe some of the productions don't want to get sued.
And for Cowley the stakes are even higher. He could lose his business if they decided to terminate the licensing agreement with him. Really bad move to go down that road.
Let's be honest. CBS could sue pretty much any fan production for copyright infringement and win. The guidelines say we won't if you do his. So it is wise for productions to stay within those guidelines because all star trek fan films are playing in somebody else's sandbox and that needs to be respected.
News flash: Star Trek isn't real.
