I like Burnham, she just missed my top 5 list. I really wanted to put her her in. in season 2 my vote goes to Pike.

Since we are including both seasons

1 Tilly
2 Lorca
3 Stamets
4 Mudd
5 Mirror Georgiou

Jason

1. Saru
2. Burnham
3. Detmer
4. Stamets
5. Tilly

(honorable mentions to L'Rell, Shran, Lorca, Kol and MU Georgiou)

Lorca
Georgiou
Pike
Saru
Stamets

I Ioved Tilly in Season 1 but she's annoying as fuck in Season 2.

Pike and Stamets are the only ones I like without reservation. Maybe Saru -- he's grown on me, thanks largely to Doug Jones. I liked Jett a lot in her first appearance, but I found her a little too much this week. We'll see how she shakes out.

So I guess I'd go:

Pike
Stamets
Saru
Lorca (higher if he hadn't been ruined)
Jett/Mudd

^Cornwell was one of my favorites from season one, along with Lorca, Stamets and Culber. Then they ruined her and Lorca and killed off Culber, while relegating Stamets to delivering spore Treknobabble and looking (appropriately) nauseated.

It was a rough season for me.

Cornwell is an Admiral who feels like a real person instead of just some Idiot Admiral for the crew to ignore or some Corrupt Admiral to disobey. And she saw right through Lorca's bullshit by the end of the night in "Lethe". The only other Admiral who came close to this before was Ross on DS9. I'm not counting Kirk from the TOS Movies because he was always a Captain at heart, regardless of his rank.

I feel some people are probably thinking "Why the Hell did you put L'Rell in the list?" That's a good question. She's the only Klingon that's approachable. With the others, there's no getting through to them. And someone has to be gotten through to or these Klingons just don't stop. She was clever enough to get Voq out of the jam he was in at the end of "The Butcher's Knife", smart enough to take advantage of the offer made to her in "Will You Take My Hand?", and smart enough to listen to Georgiou's pragmatic advice on how to keep the Klingons in line at the end of "Point of Light". If this were Planet of the Apes, I'd say she's an Orangutan who managed to keep the Gorillas at bay. Chang, from TUC, is also an Orangutan if we're using Trek-to-Apes analogies. Gorkon and Azetbur would be like the Chimpanzees. Most of the Klingons in DSC are Gorillas through and through.

Pike and Prime Georgiou are examples of Model Captains. Pike is kind of like Kirk. Georgiou is kind of like Picard. Mirror Georgiou is the opposite. She's a model of her own society but also an emperor who now has to adapt to a society that's not imperial. Or, at the very least, the Federation is trying hard not to look like it's imperial. That's the grey area for Mirror Georgiou and Section 31 to operate in.

Lorca, of course, needs no explanation. He's still missed.

For those who didn't quite make the cut: Saru has grown on me. A lot. He's an honorable mention. So has Stamets. Culber needs to be more than Stamets' (dead) boyfriend. Tilly needs to be toned down back to Season 1 Level, otherwise she'd be in my Top 5.

With Tyler, the concept of two people in one sounds better than how it's executed. He feels like one person now. Kind of an average guy who just happens to know Klingon Culture.

Captain Lorca
Stamets
Tilly
Captain Pike
Sarek

Lorca was my favorite new character. It still annoys me that they made him a villain. I like Stamets unreservedly. He’s also a genuinely compassionate character and a good friend to the others, while still having interesting quirks and snarkiness. Tilly is a touch annoying but still fills the everywoman character. Pike seems to be the ideal Trek captain. Sarek is a bundle of complexities and contradictions, all of them interesting as hell. Someone should make a series about him.

Burnham, despite being the protagonist and despite her interesting Vulcan back story, is the character I least enjoy watching on screen. I just don’t like the Klingons in this series, appearance or characters. Saru is an interesting character played by an excellent actor but I have to admit his alien species is rather grotesque to look at on screen. I enjoy Admiral Cornwell and Mudd and really like Jett Reno and wish they would make her a main cast member.

Lorca -before the big reveal, which turned him into a cartoon character

Stamets - he needs more of a role this season

Owosekun - really loved her in New Eden and would love to see her more.

Detmer - Ditto for Detmer. Glad they are getting more lines this season.

Captain Pike - Mount is doing a great job in the role.

Honorable mention to Suru. Jones is doing a great job with the character.

I did like Tilly in the first season but she has become a bit annoying. Maybe after the Apore arc they will cut back with her a little.
