TNG Returns!

I could very easy see him dealing with the disease.

Why would he want to play a part so similar to the aged Professor X? I think the smart thing to do would be to ignore entirely what happened in "All Good Things," as that future and Picard's "syndrome" were all part of Q's setup of the situation that Picard had to solve.

I'm hopeful that after the writers and producers identify all the story pathways they shouldn't go down, they'll come up with something good.

Amazing news about Patrick Stewart coming back top reprise Captain Picard!:techman::beer::biggrin:
Do we know he's going to be a Captain? I kind of would like to see something different than an exploration show. 20 years post-Nemesis, wouldn't Picard be like an Admiral or Ambassador or something other than Captain?

They can deal with syndrome if they want to, but it's easily dismissed if that's not the story they want to tell.

At most, just throw in a line or two about how observing the future changes the future, explain that a cure was found sometime in the last twenty years, and be done with it.

Well they are two different characters so the differences would be in how different the characters are. Getting old and dealing with mortality though is something he might just find interesting because this is in essence his swan song as Picard. Maybe he wants to pass the torch to someone else in the show which in away would also make him be a little like Logan in "Logan" as well. I also expect we might see some actors who are even higher caliber than he had on TNG which might also appeal to him. I could see Ian McKellan doing the show as well as a favor. I think we expect the show to have a mostly young cast besides Stewart but if this is more of mini-series than a long-term show it could be the oposite. You could see many talented experienced character actors sign up, not to mention big name actors who are Trek fans.

Some TNG, DS9, VOY appearances I'm sure. New characters in there as well. If its a hit, and some of the newer characters do well, Im sure we would see more late 24th century prime stories to come.

I just don't see that happening. This show seems to be a vehicle for Patrick Stewart. It's a Picard story, not a "let's catch up with the old crew or other crews" story. As for more 24th century shows....we'll see. These things are expensive and I don't really see them making an investment in something they'd have to create from whole cloth. It makes more sense for them to spin-off in the current DSC era in order to reuse a lot of stuff.

And for people saying we've had reboots and prequels for the last however many years.....we've had 500 hundred hours or so of 24th century Trek. When we get that many in the Burnham / Pike / Kirk era, then I'll be ready to move on to a different time period. Not before.

PS is only 78 years old. That's not exactly old in the 24th century. McCoy was 137; O'Brian wanted to die in his bed "at 140." Picard is basically very late middle-aged for a future human.

I want to see some of the TNG characters too. I do not want to find out that their lives have become depressing or that they started to hate each other over the last 20 years. The characters can grow without growing miserable. I want to find that they've all been productive and led reasonably happy lives. Hell, Riker and Troi (or Picard and Crusher) could have a teenager the same age as Wesley was in season 1, at this point.

I want to see Data show up, make a snide comment about his 'aging program,' and completely neglect to inform the viewer about how he was resurrected. If Worf shows up in DISCO klingon makeup, I'll puke.

Yes, it seems like its starting with a focus on Picard. Good idea, since its Patrick Stewart. I certainly wouldn't want a "catch up with the old crew" show, if that's all it was. But it will not be a one man stage show with no other characters. So I assume we will see some TNG-DS9-VOY characters here and there, and definitely new characters. It seems very unlikely that if the show is very successful and new characters do well, that that would be the end of late 24C/ early 25C Prime stories.

If you would prefer more Burnham to NEM +20 years era, that's fine. For me, Ive seen three attempts at TOS prequels set in two timelines, none of which were as good as TOS (IMO), and not sure what else is fascinating about that era. Post NEM seems like it has a far more open ended future ahead of it than yet another pre TOS story.

Picard won't be a captain... demoted?

He's going to be Riker's 1st officer on Titan.

A friend of mine is one of Kurtzmans assistants. He knows a bit more and he told me, Picard will be a very different guy. He is disillusioned by past events, left Starfleet and joined Section 31. When the show picks up, he will be the director and he will call himself Bullock.

You heard it here first.

Picard will be 94 though. Not that that is super old in 24th century either.

When they say 20 years in the future I wonder if they are going off the last movie or the last tv episode. We might not have as big of leap in the future that we expect.

I would watch the hell out of that show
