TNG Returns!

I wanted to point out something that hasn't really been talked about: Kirsten Beyer is the sole reason this project exists, and she will likely get a "Created by" credit for it.

I also think it needs to be kept in mind that whether or not she took the post-Nemesis novel continuity into consideration when developing the basic concept for it is unknowable unless she chooses to share that information with us through this forum.

I really don't want it to involve the Borg, but let's be honest here, it will involve the Borg. DIS people already said that they'd like to redesign the Borg, but considering it is mostly the same people, they might have been referring this project. And at least it would make more sense here. Anyway, if that happens, it would be cool to have Picard work with Seven.'Professor Annika Hansen, Federation's foremost Borg expert.'

So no original timeline? What a mistake already. The Kurtzmanverse. Oh, great. No better.

There's no such thing as a "Kurtzmanverse", so

Unfortunately, they don't often think like that either. More often they want to use the publicity from a project like this to reflect back on their other products. Most corporate ventures think like Disney, who made a whole film series, so they could drum up attention for a pirate ride at their theme park

There's a strong possibility CBS will want their 2 online Star Trek shows to compliment each other somehow. I'm not saying that's guaranteed, but it stands to reason. I just hope it features Stewart & his character well, maybe offers his old friends from the show some opportunity for one last day in the sun, with their old characters, & of course... it is good.

Interesting. That's good insight, thanks.

That's a considerable overstatement.

I wouldn't be surprised if All Access sees a bigger subscription surge than with STD.

I think that STD fits well enough, narratively, into the TNGVerse, so I doubt they'll have trouble reconciling the Picard series.

Wouldn’t the new Picard show be set about 12 years after that comic book?

It would be nice if they at least referenced the events of Countdown and Spock (he’s in everything so why not) - maybe that’s the reason why Picard is not the same man we knew from TNG (to reference PStew’s announcement) because the loss of Spock affected him badly. I’d love to learn that Data came back via B4 mind you - I still haven’t forgiven Nemesis for that...

Picard is weathered enough to handle the loss of a friend, but he might blame himself forever for all the people who died on Romulus.

My money's on Picard being an Admiral. I would love a show where Admiral Picard joins a ship on a deep space expedition to solve an ancient archaeological mystery. Don't know if that's at all what the creators have in mind.

I'm strongly hoping that one way or another the show involves boldly going where no man has gone before. Not boldly staying, not accidentally going, not fighting known aliens. Exploring for the sake of exploring.

Regarding someone saying upthread about action hero Picard in the movies... keep in mind that he made that request for his character, at least as far as FIRST CONTACT is concerned. He can do action perfectly fine, as he has proven on TNG... the thieves on "Starship Mine", knocking down Kyril Finn in "The High Ground" (which I firmly believe he would have won that situation if not for that dimensional transporter), outpacing both Wesley and Dirgo in the desert in "Final Mission" (clearly showing he is quite fit), going toe to toe with that creature in "Darmok", surviving Gul Madred, takin an arrow willingly in "Who Watches The Watchers", being Worf's Cha'dich and fighting a pair of Klingons, and being chosen by K'mpec to be Arbiter of Succession. You have the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire giving you that job... you've more than earned the right to be called a badass. And he was a good tactician, too. The Picard Maneuver, anyone? And there are other examples.

My point being that he prefers the diplomacy route, but he can and will fight, and he'll more than likely win.

Granted, I doubt we will see action hero Picard in this series, but we can't dismiss it, either. And if Sir Patrick Stewart requests it for the show, I guarantee he'll get it.

No matter what, I am extremely thrilled this is happening. So many possibilities.

And this could be seeing the beginning of an AMERICAN HORROR STORY version of seasons with this new show... each year, the focus on a different high profile character/species/planet/ship/insert all options here.

If I become emperor of Trek, this series will see a Jem'Hadar incursion against DS9, and Ambassador Picard, Captain Worf, and Captain Kira will go through the wormhole to seek out the Dominion for an explanation, picking up Sisko and Odo on the way
