News Thundercats (2019)

That...
Looked...
Terrible.

When somebody turns in what I assume was a demo pitch, like that, that's when a responsible network executive should laugh and say, "No thanks."

I find it insulting as a fan of the original and insulting as somebody enjoys comedy.

This is a misstep.

In some ways it makes sense. Their rationale could be, "Ok, we tried something serious last time and it only lasted for one season. Lets try something that's the polar opposite and see if that works"

Well that was different. I don’t often get a say in what’s on telly, but i have kids, so I might end up watching it anyway.

Yeah, I haven't watched TTG but as a fan of the original TT it doesn't really interest me. Part of what made TT work is that the creators knew how to work some silly and humorous elements in without compromising the show's more serious aspects, and I think they did a pretty good balance overall. Some of the eps were clearly light hearted (the one where Beast Boy wanted the moped springs to mind; also the one where Robin went off to train alone, and the other Titans "borrowed" his stuff), but also fit in with the overall tone.

Thundercats isn't a series I'd recommend for this direction personally. I didn't watch the 2011 version so I have no way to judge it. But it's not designed for this form of crazy comedy IMO.

So, they're giving Thundercats the "Teen Titans Go" treatment. Ugh.
IIRC, Teen Titans Go is one of Cartoon Network's most successful shows, so I can't say I'm surprised they went this route with Thundercats. And given what's on CN these days, anything outside of its Adult Swim/Toonami block is bound to be a comedy of some kind, IMO...

It's not made for you. It's made for children. And that is apparently a popular art style for children's shows these days.

It's not made for you.

DUH.

That neither changes my opinion nor negates my ability to make one.

It's made for children.

Based upon what? Nothing in the article says that and Cartoon Network has shows made for adults and younger but not children. It's Cartoon Network, but it may air at a time that places it in the Adult Swim section.

And that is apparently a popular art style for children's shows these days.

Which also is working for a disturbingly increasing number of teens and older.

This show looks like it has potential. I think the art is really cute, and feels like it'll be a lot more fun that the previous attempt at modern Thundercats. CN seems like its trying really hard to build a new hit out of the TTG formula. I love TTG as much as the original series, but attempts to remake it with Unikitty and PPG have felt pretty shallow. I'm hoping that this latest attempt is a bit more inspired than those.

I don't have 3hrs. I barely get that free time for a movie here/there.
Be nice if someone with more time to kill just made a few bullet point highlights contained in this lengthy interview.

There's a more condensed version of the interview. This one is just under 30 minutes.

I'm sure my 6yr old will love it... I may be mildly amused because of the nostalgia.... but mostly checked out.

I'd be up for a serious live-action movie or tv series rated PG-13 or R. I mean, think of exactly how terrifying and awesome Mumm-Ra could/would be. Just make Snarf a lot less annoying- he's the original Jar-Jar Binks.

This is the Thundercats I’d like to see:
