I'm gonna go on Facebook and start a rumor that there is no
U.S.S. Discovery in the show - it's misdirection altogether, and the show's actually about
Shenzhou (which is really not called
Shenzhou, either). "Discovery" is being used in a more general sense, harkening back to the first Trek spinoff, TNG, which also did not feature the name of the ship in its title.
Consider:
- We have a fully fleshed out cast for Shenzhou, but nothing on Discovery;
- We have a handful of casting announcements for the cast who will play Klingons on another ship, but no one on Discovery;
- Martin-Green's character has been described by one Walking Dead producer as a "lieutenant commander on a Constitution-class ship;"
- The very early release of images of this alleged "Discovery," which appeared to be very rough, quickly assembled and simplistic CG of a variation on an old design that's been documented all over the place for decades. Just some hastily whipped-up "evidence" to support their cover story.
In a few weeks we'll be seeing the first leaked sketches of an updated and completely reimagined Constitution class vessel, the actual setting of the new show. It's
Enterprise, commanded by Captain Christine Pike.
I'm going to make up an account name - something stupid like "
Ferd Porthos" - and claim mysterious contacts in Toronto. Heads will explode.
