It is staggering how many people are willing to accept any crazy and blatantly counterfactual thing they hear on YouTube as truth. Please explain how 'copyright' will prevent them from using the original design.

CBS owns the rights, so they don't have to pay themselves to use it. Paramount has the right to distribution and production of films, but not the rights of the designs.

It's complicated, but certainly not so much so that CBS couldn't have used the designs if they wanted to.

I stole the Beyond uniform, tossed on the Discovery badge and made the bridge graphics amber. An updated spin of traditional colors could have worked.

This is not true. Period, full stop.

They can use anything they want to use.

Much of what's being pushed on this subject in those Youtube videos is, simply, flat-out fabrication and lies.

Axanar "turned out" to be a financial fraud that was shut down by the people who own Star Trek .

Midnight's Edge - (YouTube) has hit the nail on the head in regard to Discovery - this is a Reboot. Plain and simple. Due to Copyright they're not allowed to use the Original designs so that's why its closer to Bad Robot Kelvin Universe.

CBS own Star Trek: TOS. CBS is making DSC. CBS chose not to use the TOS look.

The fact that they've lied to us fans has annoyed me the most. Telling us its in the Prime Universe and they've had Super Fans in the writing rooms to make sure that the essence of the Prime Universe is maintained is a load of rubbish.

Essence =/= look.

Admittedly, it does look like a reboot to me (which is what i wanted) and I'm not sure why they insist it's Prime, but we'll see in a few months.

The uniforms are all wrong, the redesigns of the Klingons is embarrassing. It'll last one season before cancellation.

It's viewership will be made up of people who understand that a good television show consists of things very different than duplicating the look of one from the 1960's.

YouTube is the worst though. I've seen a couple of videos and am honestly flabbergasted that people can believe them

I don't like the little gold pattern on the sides, and I wish they used stripes instead of those tiny pip things on the badge. Aside from being a TNG thing, they just do not clearly call out rank.

Other than that they look pretty good, I like the overall appearance and it's a nice color blue.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but one of the little things I do like about the outfits is that they've made the delta badges larger than in the post-TOS shows - not quite as big as in the original series, but closer to it.
