I think by episode 2, I'll not even notice.
However, the problem I see with the uniforms now is that they're blue on blue backgrounds. And that's my issue with Discovery's aesthetic—there's no contrasting colors and there's a lack of color in the show's palette. That makes the characters blur into the shot rather than stand out
I've had similar feelings, and I am an overweight person. The TOS uniforms are form-fitting for men and women, and can be unflattering if the person wearing the outfit is not in the best shape. You can only size up the TOS tunics so much before they just start to look like gaudily-colored sweaters. No doubt. But you can objectively stat that for example the Discovery uniform referenced on the previous page, only vaguely resembles the screen used discovery uniform.
I have a Kirk era uniform that I wear for Halloween and I'm constantly bothered by all the inaccuracies. Granted, there is no such thing as a "one true" uniform. But there is a realm of similarity in which a uniform can be said to be a faithful recreation of screen used uniforms. I don't consider Halloween dress up cosplay, but that vague sense of being "in character" is severely limited by the accuracy of the costume I'm wearing. I suppose I also project that on others. How can you be representing a character when your costume doesn't even look like a "real" one.
It's the same with overweight people dressing up and fit characters. Just no. Either get into shape or find a character that has a similar body shape as you. There was no 250 lb. Boba Fett.
I know the proper response is to jump all over me for being an insensitive a$$hole. But while I would never say this directly to someone, this is whats going through my mind. Though, it's not a standard that I'm unwilling to judge myself by either.
This is why I think JJTrek has a much much better look than Discovery. There's contrast, the aesthetics are way more appealing and interesting to me, instead of just a blue mess. JJTrek looks slick, modern, stylish, without making EVERYTHING blue.
I prefer the JJTrek outfits too.
One of the best designs of Starfleet uniforms, in my opinion.I prefer the JJTrek outfits too.
I agree. I like both the 2009-Into Darkness and the Beyond uniforms. I think the Beyond uniforms more from the surprise, because they looked too stiff and formal, but seeing them in the movie actually worked nicely. One of the best designs of Starfleet uniforms, in my opinion.

That part I'm still trying to sort out as well, but overall I do like the design. Maybe those are to block the defensive line?I still don't get the shoulder pads.

Due to Copyright they're not allowed to use the Original designs so that's why its closer to Bad Robot Kelvin Universe.
The fact that they've lied to us fans has annoyed me the most. Telling us its in the Prime Universe and they've had Super Fans in the writing rooms to make sure that the essence of the Prime Universe is maintained is a load of rubbish.
I took another shot at adding some more "trek" to Discovery.

Midnight's Edge - (YouTube) has hit the nail on the head in regard to Discovery - this is a Reboot. Plain and simple. Due to Copyright they're not allowed to use the Original designs so that's why its closer to Bad Robot Kelvin Universe.

The uniforms are all wrong, the redesigns of the Klingons is embarrassing. It'll last one season before cancellation.
