THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

In the Ultimate universe, Spider-Man was the only one who had the right to call himself a hero.

I disagree. With the exception of Thor, The Ultimates were all a pack of low-lifes. This is true.

But I feel the Ultimate X-Men were far more true to what The X-Men are all about and supposed to be then any 616 X-Men title in the past 10 years. And that is just sad.

Anyway, the more I watch True Blood the more pissed off I am that Alexander Skarsguard(?) didn't get picked to play Thor. I hope Kirk's dad does an acceptable job. But Eric Northman would have just been too perfect.

Well since for some bizarre reason Stan is not a multi-millionaire that is one of the least things they can do for him to recognize none of it would exist without him.
So this is now about recognizing Stan Lee for his achievements, as opposed to using him as a living sight gag in the Marvel films? I could have sworn it was the latter.

But what is it you dislike about it?!

Yeah, I'm having a hard time seeing what the problem is.

I'm still PO'ed that they didn't think of approaching David Tennant or John Simms for Loki.

^ If it's any consolation, I've seen the actor playing Loki in Wallander, opposite Thor director Kenneth Branagh. I'd say he has the same sort of qualities as those actors and is very much in their vein.

When we see Stan Lee in these movies, it's like hearing the same old joke over and over again. And it takes us right out of the movie. When will enough be enough?

I agree. I think his worst 'cameo' was in Spider-Man 3. It just felt so tacked on and contrived. I'd say his best was in The Incredible Hulk, where he actually furthered along the plot.

I know right? Simms would have just been perfect.

I don't know, I thought he was a perfect fit as Willy Lumpkin in FF. He was a childhood "hero" when I was really big into comics so I always look forward to spotting his cameos.

I thought the best was the 'Hey, Hef!' one in Iron Man. But if people don't like them fair enough. Then again, he's an old man and they'll be making Marvel movies for a long time, so he's unlikely to appear in all of them ...

^Unless they start using CG to insert him into movies...

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

One more slot for Thor has been filled.
Renee Russon to play Frigga, Thors mom.
Rene Russo is set to play Frigga, the mother of the titular hammer-wielding Norse hero in "Thor" for Marvel Studios says Variety.
As the wife of Norse god (Anthony Hopkins) Frigga is the queen of Asgard and mother to both Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the villain Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Natalie Portman also stars as Thor’s love interest.

How do we feel about this?
She has acting chops. Should be able to hold her own alongside Anthony Hopkins.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Frigga isn't Thor or Loki's mother; Thor's mother is Gaea, and Loki is a foster-child taken in from the giants.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

In this version she is. Kinda like in Disney's Hercules, Hera was his mother. Go figure that one.

I've no doubt its a 'creative liberty' meant to keep the principles of the film locked into a greater dramatic situation.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

This is getting to be a really stacked cast...even to the bit roles...I am getting excited about Thor for 2011!

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Refresh my memory, in the Marvel comics Loki actually IS Thor's brother (half-brother?) and not adopted?

No, he's very much adopted (they recently revisited his origin in JMS' run).

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Seems only appropriate to update the THOR thread with this update as well.

THOR moved up to May 20th to May 6th
Variety says Sony still wants to release SPIDER-MAN 4 on May 5 so if the studio gets to keep that date, Paramount would have move THOR again but it’s gonna be tough getting May 20 back from PIRATES 4. Isn’t this fun?! Fight, fight, fight!
Marvel Studios and Paramount has moved THOR from May 20th to two weeks earlier than scheduled, May 6th, 2011…

Marvel properties possibly at war.
SONY has really messed up things with their poor handling of the Spidey 4 development.

I want Spidey 4 but I don't want it to mess up Thor. So if SONY gets it back together they will have a real tough time finding another good summer 2011 spot. If it shoe horns into a slot a day or two before THOR it could hurt both.

What a tangled web that is being weaved.
