THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till release

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

I'd prefer if Fury et al. not know that Thor is the genuine divine article, at least not at first; but think that here's another superpowered guy, who thinks he's a god, but seems well intentioned enough for all his delusions of grandeur. Heck, we'd rather be working with him than against him, so we'll just smile, nod and point him towards whoever needs killing.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

More Thor casting news.
With all of this jibber-jabber about whether Robert De Niro and Jude Law are or aren't in Kenneth Branagh's Thor and who they might play, those sneaky blokes at Movieline interviewed Dominic Cooper for Lone Scherfig's An Education and just happened to notice that the young British actor, best known for his role in the musical Mamma Mia!, was preparing to audition for a role in the movie himself! Essentially, the interviewer happened to notice the Thor sides Cooper had been studying and started asking questions about whether he'd been approached for the role of Fandral the Dashing, one of the Warriors Three, already knowing the answer. You can read exactly how it went down at the end of that interview over on Movieline.
Of course, just because Cooper is studying, that doesn't mean he's already gotten the role of the blonde bearded swashbuckler, but it certainly would be interesting to see him, De Niro and Jude Law as The Warriors Three if that's the way Branagh decides to go.

Just rumors as of now but what of these three rumors being true about DeNiro,Law,Cooper as The Warriors Three??

^ I can't find the story now but last week (possibly on aintitcool.com) there was a story that Favreau had opted not to direct The Avengers, because he didn't see how the magical fantasy elements of Thor could be reconciled with the more grounded Iron Man, Captain America etc.

In other news, Mamma Mia actor Dominic Cooper may also be up for a role in Thor.

You didn't read my post at all did you? :sigh:
My whole prior post is the news on Dominic Cooper with the same link you posted.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Samuel L. Jackson is in everything!

Seriously, though, he signed up for something on order of nine Marvel films. Iron Man 2 we know for sure, Avengers seems a gimme, but that's still seven flicks left. I wouldn't be surprised to see him here, though I would be surprised if it was a very large role.
Thor will meet Nick Fury? Why not! Back in the 1980's, Fury provided much-needed assistance to Thor. In a story written and drawn by Walter Simonson, Fury set Thor up with a new secret identity. He gave Thor a new name (Sigurd Jarlsson), plus a pair of eyeglasses, because "they worked for that other guy."

Wind your neck in. If you look at the time that they were posted and also look at who I was replying to, you'll see that our posts simply overlapped. I was replying to the poster above you and before I posted my post, you posted yours. They just happened to be on the same subject.

Surely the reference to the Avengers should have made it clear that I was replying to the post above, not to you?

That's fantastic. :rommie:

And, the idea of the government thinking Thor was just another nut is an aspect of the Ultimates take on the character, right?

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Yeah, I forget whether it was Mark Millar or Bendis but one of them deliberately wanted the Ultimate Universe less heroic than 616 which is what led to things like the Hulk being a cannibal, Pym being an outright wife-beater (compared to his VERY MUCH NOT A WIFEBEATER 616 self), Magneto being an irredeemable psychopath and...well everyone except Spider-Man being unworthy of the term "Superhero".

The "Thor not a God" thing was part of that.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Eh, different for the sake of different if you ask me. I do like the idea of Thor not being immediately accepted, though I loathe the Ultimate Thor costume.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Probably because of him as Hrothgar.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

Meh.

Don't get me wrong, Hopkins is a very good, if over-rated (IMHO), actor. But this is kind of a too-obvious choice. He's a little overused in this sort of mentor role. Zorro, Hrothgar, that Alexander movie ... That's one of the reasons I was glad Michael Caine was cast as Alfred in Batman rather than Hopkins, who was apparently first choice. I'd rather have seen Blessed, Stellan Skaarsgard or someone a little more offbeat land this role. But I suppose landing an acclaimed Oscar winner isn't too shabby either.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

It appears that nothing has changed the initial time table and this announcement here reaffirms their start date as of mid-January.
Filming on Marvel's film adaptation of "Thor" is set to get underway in Los Angeles starting mid-January reports Production Weekly.
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson star in the Kenneth Branagh-directed film which has the powerful but arrogant warrior (Hemsworth) cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment for nearly igniting a war.
Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Shooting will continue for several weeks before moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico from March till late-April.

With the main cast in place and the casting call for extras having gone out a month ago they are ready to roll film.
I am eager to see this movie underway.

Jaime Alexander has begun stunt work for her role as Sif.

Jaimie Alexander ("Kyle XY") has been tweeting about her training for the role of Sif in director Kenneth Branagh's comic book adaptation Thor, which starts filming in January. Some recent tweets from her Twitter account talk about her stunt training:
1st day of stunt training for Thor... kinda nervous :)
wow.......that was pretty dang tough....but a sh*t ton of fun!!!! :) :) need to sit in an ice bath for year.....am beyond SORE!

Seems the Warriors Three have been cast. Stuart Townsend will finally get to swash and buckle almost a decade after being sacked as LOTR's Aragorn. Ray Stevenson will pull double Marvel duties - guess they're not holding the failure of Punisher War Zone against him. And remember when his Rome co-star Kevin McKidd was tipped to play Thor? Finally Tadanobu Asano rounds out the trio - never heard of him.

Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea

While doing an interview Natalie Portman indicated that Kat Dennings has been cast in Thor as well. She did not mention what role she will be playing.
Natalie Portman revealed to MTV this weekend that Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) will have a role in director Kenneth Branagh's Thor. She didn't reveal what role Dennings will be playing, however.

My guess is she'll play a buddie role to Portmans character. It could be one good reason Portman knows she has the part. I doubt Kat has been cast in a comic part but if she has who would make sense from Thor/Asgard/Shield?

Karnilla the Norn Queen is probably the most prominent mythological female character next (though she's not an Asgardian).
