Things you wouldn't like to see return for a sequel

A colorless bridge.
Scotty's pet.
Would anyone take Pegg's Scotty seriously the way he is written? Not Peggs fault, just poor writing. So, he beams in with Kirk and is already Chief Engineer? How did that happen?
Most of all - Enough of the Star Wars crap like jumping impossibly Long distances. The Force doesn't exist in this universe. When did Vulcans adopt their ship designs from a bounty hunter? The monster chasing the hero that gets eaten by a bigger monster etc. Enough already.
A story without a moral. Trek was always ABOUT something.
What the hell is Red Matter? I'm all for not getting bogged down with over-technical explanations of how things work in sci-Fi stories, but Red Matter needed to be explained better.
A little off the subject, but is Kahn's CetianEel still in Pike?

Character parodies: McCoy was always upset, Scotty shouting he's givin her all she's got (while aparently coming from the transporter room). Kirk with an Orion girl. Seemed a little forced.

As someone has already said- cadets. Part of the appeal of Trek is that is the best crew in the best ship exploring the galaxy. After STTMP the prodees and writers seem to have gotten the idea that it was the cadets that were the big appeal.
Oh, and the tut that the Next Gen movies got into of having a fist fight with the guest villian at the end.

The original chief engineer (Olsen) died. He was the redshirt who got killed by the drill.

I doubt it. Starfleet docs probably removed it.

Better dialogue, and hopefully more exploration, as that is Starfleet's primary mission, in both universes...more sense of wonder and awe, not just getting sent to investigate a "lightning storm in space" (whatever the hell that means).

  • An Orion (presumably) made with worse makeup than Susan Oliver's!

Yeah, that scene tore me out of it there. That girl was a little too chubby, a little too teen-contemporary, and not nearly 'erotic' enough to pass as a green Orion girl. The girl who played the tribal leader's wife in 'A Private Little War' is the sort you need to green up and turn loose to chew up the scenery.

Engineering needs to look more like engineering and less like a brewery.

Scotty's friend can come back, so long as he brings some valuable engineering skills along with him.

This is my vote. Engineering really took me out of the movie, although fortunately, it was brief. There may have only been about 10 minutes or so of screen time here.

On another website, Bob Orci pretty much admitted using the brewery was a cost-cutting measure, since building those sets would have cost millions(in his estimation). That might have been hard to justify for scenes that were so brief.

But with most of the sets already built, maybe they can afford to sink some $$ into a real engineering set for XII. It can still have the open, analog look, but still look like a starship interior(that was supposedly brand new).

Scotty's buddy didn't bother me like he bothered so many others. Maybe because his screen-time was also limited. He might get on my nerves if he had taken over the movie like an Ewok or Jar Jar.

But if they do use him again, give him a reason for being there, not just comic relief.

Shaky cam.

It was a little tiresome with Batman Begins.

I'd rather not see it continue too much with Trek XII.

Spock/Uhura fling - Rather have him deflect the advances of Nurse Chapel.
Scotty's engineer buddy - as much as Scotty can provide comic relief, his buddy is useless and Scotty's only friend should be the engines of the Enterprise.
Kirk's romantic nature - we should see him do more and actually 'shag' a female or two to lead to his future children all around the universe.

As far as a future story, the next movie should combine have old episode theme with a new twist, plus a new story with true villian alien. I think it would be easy to do "Where No Man Has Gone Before" with an updated character other than Gary Mitchell or "Arena" with the Gorn, but Kirk makes a different kind of weapon.

It's a sad day when a healthy weight, nicely proportioned girl is considered chubby. Healthy girls are not stick insects with pouffy hair.

(Mother m0de off).
