Things I Haven't Done

Oh, I just mean that IF I am gonna get my wish, it will not be on a Carnival or Princess cruise...not being elitist, just want that experience!

My original comment about time travel was to mean if you think first class means you will have a "genteel" experience you are quite wrong. It's an odd assumption to have, one more fit for the films.

Yeah, you are probably right. Guess I waited too long and was born too late...but I can still imagine! :)

I've been thinking about places I'd like to go to, Bruges (it's in Belgium) which I hear is a fucking fairy tale city.

You're in trouble now. Once you move there, I can use that an excuse. "But we HAVE to go visit!"

You will have two very goofy-looking, old people on your doorstep one day.

Hah well I won't exactly be in a touristy area. We'll be in the Midlands, a few hours north of London. I am planning to move at some point this year, so definitely stay in touch and message me if you're ever over there!

I've never travelled outside the us. I went to Windsor Canada but that is an extension of Detroit that it almost doesn't count. I've never been overseas or even the main cities in Canada

I have become very fond of Canada over the last few years. I go to Toronto every year - it's one of my favorite cities I've ever been to. I freaking love Toronto. And this year I plan to go to Ottawa as well so I can visit Parliament Hill.

auntie, if you and hubby are looking for fun places to go, that's one! :techman:

I might be going to Toronto this summer. It's mainly a NYC trip but we might take a trip to Toronto to attach to it. Would love to see a Maple Leafs game or even go to Montreal and experience the French Canadian Culture.

^ I'd love to go to Montreal too, but I don't speak a word of French so I don't know how well I could get by there....

If you can, try and catch a game at Rogers Centre too. IIRC, the Blue Jays are the only team that plays there now (the Argos are now sharing BMO Field with Toronto FC). It's a nice stadium - even has a hotel in it, which is where I always stay. I highly recommend it, it's a Marriott. Some rooms even have a view of the field! :)

Oh and make sure you check out the PATH system. It's ginormous - literally a whole world underground. Almost every building in downtown Toronto is connected to it. Linky

Thanks for the recommendations. I would love to go to Rogers Center but I'm not sure how much time we will have. If I do go to NY, I would love to see both the Yankees and the Mets, mostly the Mets and Citi Field. Might be hard to get tickets considering their world series run.

I remember when I was in Washington DC and they had the Metro system and it seemed like everything was connected to that. Is the Path System similar? Might be an easy way to tour the city.

^ DC's Metro is just a subway. Toronto's PATH is something on a whole different level - it's basically a whopping great underground shopping complex. Picture the biggest mall you've ever been in, multiply it by about 10, put it underground, and you have the PATH. Unfortunately it isn't the easiest thing to get around in, although there are maps of a sort.

Here's other things that I like to visit in Toronto:

- Eaton Centre
- Casa Loma
- Museums by the bucketful...the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) museum, the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum, probably others I haven't even thought of
- The CN Tower
- Ripley's Aquarium
- Toronto City Hall, which actually appeared in an episode of ST:TNG :D

I would love to visit all of the MLB ballparks, preferable in one season. I would also like to visit Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Scotland, and visit distant relatives in Belgium.
Unfortunately with kids, the cost and logistics get a bit cumbersome.

I would love to visit ALL of these places...and frequently imagine myself boarding a plane and heading off on some great trip of a lifetime. I look at luggage and outfits to travel in, and browse the websites of various hotels.

That's also about the time my checking account pokes me in the ribs and tells me to calm the fuck down.

Well, you might expect a visit from me in, say, about 20 -25 years, if I'm still around. ;)

You'd get tired of airports REAL quick if you did that.

srsly, that's a fine quest to be on - took me 8 years, but I had a lot of fun doing it. If you do this, I highly recommend Sports Travel & Tours - they take care of everything for you, like getting the tickets, transportation to the ballpark (this is a HUGE help at places like Dodger Stadium which aren't accessible by public transit), hotel lodgings, that sort of thing. Also they often include city and ballpark tours as part of the package. Can't go wrong with that! :)

I had full pat down both ways when I was travelling at the beginning of the week. Was the first time I travelled by plane after having my pump installed.

Good luck!

Was it uncomfortable at all or did it feel natural? I think I'd be so awkward on a horse.

Thanks!

It felt natural. The second I went to get on him, I was scared, but that wasn't of the horse but a fear of making a jackass out of myself. That feeling passed in seconds.

It was - interesting. I had to remember to do certain things with the reins, 'cause the horse wasn't psychic, but it was used to dumbasses on it and the lady teaching was very patient.

And I did well enough that she let me go alone and that was THRILLING. I wish I had had the time/money to do more in regards to learning to ride when I was younger. I have a really bad spine now and so regular riding (much less jumping) would be a really bad idea, I would think. I figured one tame ride wouldn't hurt me as I wasn't planning on falling off of the horse! LOL

Although my thighs were sore the next day. Ow. Used different muscles evidently than I usually do.

Even so, worth it. I missed it during the first Fair, but this year, I made sure to drag the husband back to the very back of the Fair (where the horse riding was offered) FIRST. I didn't care if I had to wait an hour. Turned it I did have to wait a while and I think it came up to around an hour, but it was so worth it.

Actually my dream is to drive the whole thing, start in Seattle and make my way down the coast, across Arizona and Texas, Florida, then up the east coast and zig zag up and down the middle until I get home to Denver for my final stop at Coors Field. The only real tricky part is Toronto, which may require a flight. The only two obstacles in my way are time and money. Pretty big obstacles.
It's funny you mentioned Dodger Stadium, we went to a game there last year, and we got totally lost in the parking lot on the way out. It took us about 30 minutes to even find the lot that we parked in!
Thanks for the tip on Sports Travel & Tours I'm going to keep that handy.

I hope you had better food than I did.

Before I went there, everybody was harping on me about having a Dodger Dog. So I did, and I can honestly say it was the worst hot dog I have ever eaten. It was burned up and shriveled. I have in the past eaten very GOOD hot dogs (my favorites are the SKYLINE CHILI  ones that they serve in Cincinnati) but this was the absolute worst by far.

Plus I didn't care much for L.A. itself, but that's another matter.

@Coloratura, you may be interested to know that the game I saw at Dodger Stadium was against the Reds...and the Reds won.

In fact the Dodgers have lost every game I've seen them play live (a couple of years ago they got swept by the Rockies at Coors Field, thanks to me). So anyone who wants to see them tank, can hire me to go to games and my mere presence will guarantee that the Dodgers will lose. I promise my rates are competitive.

Oh, and for an additional fee, I can cause bench clearing brawls whenever the Cubs are present.
