The Walking Dead City season 3

The ending of The Ones Who Live literally shows helicopters being deployed across the US on humanitarian missions. Since the current season of Dead City does in fact take place after TOWL, it'll be very odd indeed if the CRM doesn't take notice of a lit up Statue of Liberty.
I will have to rewatch it... but wondering how extensive they really were...and at least at the time of TWOL, The Dama was in strict control with the Croat as the superficially threat to everyone. So that was probably deemed off limits....and then with New Babylon, that might be off limits (they seemed to have a fairly aggressive military).

Scott Gimple was named Chief Creative Officer for the walking dead, but it seems like instead of Kevin Feige, he is more like Geoff Johns with the DC FIlm Universe -- title given, but ignored when it comes to connecting with the individual projects. SHoot they could have hired a few fans for minimum wage and some old props who could give them some good continuity to work within, and make it all make sense.

And for this season.... i feel they REALLY wasted the Croat. His story would have been interesting to TRULY finish. A guy who turns out was really smart and useful that Negan banished, but has self-esteem issues (with the Dama).... claims Negan as a mentor..... this could have been Negan's chance to forgive, and re-focus The Croat so he finally stands up to the Dama and becomes an actual good leader.

They also missed the opportunity with Negan...where he should have used his Savior technique to manipulate them and take control just long enough to collapse it.

ANd wil lthey actually follow up with the Dama probably brainwashing Herschel? Or will this get dropped?

One last thing...i am glad they actually acknowledge Annie & Joshua but having Negan say they are better off without him seems like a cop-out to keep them out of the picture. It's really dumb, and feels like they are trying to re-set everything to make an excuse for this 3rd season.

And if i heard this correctly...

If Beth is coming back as a halluncination for Maggie... I mean OK...but it would be waaaaay or epowerful if GLENN showed up...especially since he "promised" that "I will find you"....and THAT would be powerful because of the Negan connection, and how THAT could play out. But unless we get a huge surprise....the Beth one will seem quite lame in comparison.

The Walking Dead: Dead City
Season 3 - Episode 3 - ”Emigrants”

MAGGIE / NEGAN:
I'm sure some TWD fans are wondering how Maggie can be so cooperative with the man who murdered her husband, or they're probably a bit pissed off that she's not planning to kill Negan at some later date. Theirs is an interesting dynamic now that the revenge angle has been tossed aside, but one has to wonder about Hershel, who at more than one time wanted to kill Negan, and now he—like his mother—appears to have moved past revenge.

HERSHEL: Last time on Rhee's Anatomy...yeah, for most of the episode, we were presented with the emergency medical crisis in the ZA, and who is capable of stepping up when one medical disaster piles on top of another. I thought this sequence was interesting, and Hershel taking to medicine with enthusiasm was a welcome change from his murderous, manipulated behavior of the past two seasons. To this end, I hope this is not all misdirection from Hershel having some ulterior motive for Magie or Negan, acting as the Dama's legacy pawn.

Speaking of the Dama, I was surprised Maggie believed the Dama committed suicide with the knife buried in her chest at such an impractical position for anyone wanting to kill themselves with ease...

NEGAN AND DILLARD: Negan is going out of his way to normalize Mason Dillard—to bring him back from Dillard's self-described psychosis regarding seeing Walkers as “people” he can “hear”. Despite Negan's best efforts—including populating the bar with real people—Dillard is unwell to say the least, as we see he has a female Walker chained to a wall in his room, a Walker he imagines not only speaks to him, but expresses jealousy like a girlfriend. The implication of necrophilia was quite clear (and stomach turning), and one can forecast that Dillard will snap beyond any attempt to council him if this female Walker is discovered and killed. For all anyone knows, Dillard might kill a woman to replace the Walker. The only question is which woman will be the victim in the event this happens...Maggie? Renata?

NOTES:

Almost more than any other fantasy series, The Walking Dead's attempts at political commentary of the day are about as subtle as an elephant giving birth to a rocket-powered piano. The overall message was obviously about the value of immigrants, shared resources and various, supposedly irrational fears of a sudden mass wave of people from a conflict-ravaged land. Although the leaders of this TWD-styled Hatfield / McCoy feud were killed, the tensions between the surviving faction members have not really cooled.

Yes, we had a flashback to The Walking Dead episode ”Internment” (S4 / E5) where Hershel taught Maggie how to properly use the bag valve mask. This is just the first of major Green callbacks that will appear this season.

Maggie mentioned New Babylon had been run off (or something to that effect), but we know they will return, not only for control of the methane tank technology, but to capture the series leads, as seen in their “wanted” poster in the season premiere.

GRADE: B.
