The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

We have the Paul Anderson/Milla Jovovich series:
Resident Evil (2002), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016).

Then there was the reboot: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) and the aforementioned animated films.

The Jovovich films are a guilty pleasure of mine. I didn't see Welcome to Racoon City, but I don't think it fared very well at the box office.

I watched the series and actually found it to be pretty good. I was disappointed they cancelled it.

This might be a case where it's actually a necessary remake. 9 times out of 10 I'll argue that throwing out the lore and straying from the source material does more harm than good, but the original Highlander franchise had some serious issues. They need to focus on the elements that did work, get Muse to do the soundtrack, and go for it.

I'll still believe it when it happens. This has been 'in the works' ever since The Source was released and bombed so they decided on a reboot instead of another sequel. The source was supposed to be the 1st of a trilogy.

The internet is going to have a meltdown over the casting of this series. Minnesota was 99.5% white in the 1880s. This is a no win scenario.

I haven't seen it for ages but I loved that film. Wonder if Garofalo and Cumming will be invited...
Watched it during lockdown with my teenage daughters and we all loved it. My wife and I had seen it when it was first out and I think we still enjoyed it just as much. Great to see Mira getting a resurgence after that vile Weinstein scuppered her career.

She has already played the young her? The first movie started with her just going off to college! While I would love a sequel to see where the character is today I don't see the appeal of a prequel.
They'll start it at high school age. The project is all about Amazon trying to take advantage of the brand. When the first rumors came out, they were talking about another spin-off created by former Gossip Girl writers. and there was talk of 2 tv series being developed. this is the 2nd one I guess because someone else will be doing the creative work on the show.

My guess: The script of the '3rd movie' of the other show, which has been in the works for a long time, will be a converted version of the TV series. Of course, if this project works, but there is no reason why it won't. Because it will be a completely yanın edat, that is, a youth TV show. There are many TV shows and movies in Prime Video that have been successful in this style.

Meanwhile, the third film has been in development since 2018.

I don't know how true what Reese Witherspoon said is. But she said that the inspiration for this TV series was Netflix's Wednesday.

I miss Godwin's law when it came to talking about Nazi's. I don't even mind hyperbolic rants to some degree. The Soup Nazi had it coming when Elaine stole his soup recipe. But context needs to make a big comeback IMO.
