The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

No cap, bruh.

My wife has outlawed "skibidi" and other terms in her classroom. The latest slang term is "shrimp alfredo." One kid was openly defying her by saying it and getting other kids to say it too, even though, as it turns out, they didn't know what it meant. Let's just say the day after their parents were informed, they were behaving much better.
That's so Ohio.

Ever since Grownish went off the air I have lost track on my ability to learn all the new young people slang.

I gave up long ago. Since most of the teens I deal with have their noses buried in their phones, I don't hear much of it anyway.

Human communication, even if stupid slang, has instead been replaced by poppin, ticking, and other sound effects that come out of phones and make you want to brutally murder people who act blissfully unaware of their nuisance.

Buried deep in this lengthy story about Warner Bros is the news that the studio has new scripts for The Matrix, Gremlins and Goonies sequels or reboots.
Matrix has already had a sequel and done stuff so whatever. I think Gremlins kind of lent itself to possible future stories...

but the Goonies makes no sense to me in that they'd need to find ANOTHER 'treasure/secret' that had all these intricate puzzles and traps while being a pretty remote and obscure area.

It's not National Treasure. It was about a small town in Oregon with a couple thousand people. There would really need to be a well-crafted reason to have them involved with another area and another mystery.

Might be fun to see them all as adults. Brolin, Quan, Plimpton and Astin are all acting and I’m sure Feldman is available. But I suspect we’re more likely to see a reboot than legacy sequel.

A new Gremlins movie should be more inspired by the sequel and just do something that is really wild and crazy. Gremlins conquer Canada is my idea. Just a wild and crazy movie were Gremlins are poking fun at Canadian Culture. Gizmo,Billy and Kate have moved their and now they also have two twin daughters.

I'd mix Gremlins with the disaster genre by having it set somewhere that's hit by either a tsunami or hurricane. Then you'd have a double-whammy to deal with.
A double-whammy?! Gremlins multiply when they get wet. Mixing Gremlins with a tsunami, if you'd just had one Mogwai when the tsunami hits, you'd probably have thousands of Gremlins within a couple of hours. ... That just writes itself, doesn't it?

Has it been mentioned that X-Files is coming back in February for 10 episodes? If so, I’m sorry. I just saw an ad for it on FB.

That's not possible. Ryan Coogler wants to revive it, but there's been no movement. Nothing cast, nothing filmed.

I found someone on Reddit asking about it. It's click bait.

Exactly! The fact that they get wet would quickly get it chaotic just on that factor alone.

I tried watching the new reboot of The Hollywood Squares after the Ravens/Bills game and gave up after the first commercial.

The Goonies doesn't have to be about treasure. Just put them on another "Amblin Entertainment" type of adventure. Shipwrecked on a seemingly-deserted island. Accidentally come into possession of something top secret and both the good guys and bad guys are after them.

In other news, how can a Suits spinoff be on network TV? It's not (later season) Suits without characters swearing at each other for no reason other than someone thinks it's edgy.

This of course makes it easy to explain how Gizmo gets wet. Also with electricity out who can keep track when it becomes past midnight and thus one might eat not knowing the time.

They should do a Goonies sequel were they go into space and have to deal with a pirate with a laser sword and robot pirate. They want to get home but run into obstacles first because they don't know how to get back.
