The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

This list of forthcoming Disney movies contains more sequels, prequels and live-action remakes than you can shake a stick at.

Also coming is a tv spin off from Inside Out

I believe Sister Act 3 has been in the works for a while now. Whoopi mentioned filming was set to commence in an episode of The View a while ago.

It's official, Josh Gadd is writing Spaceballs 2, to air/stream on Amazon Prime/MGM.
I talked about this elsewhere, but my core issue with sequelizing Mel Brooks movies is the originals only have just enough plot to be able to connect up all the jokes, which is really the reason we all remember them so well. There’s not enough plot to warrant a continuation of the story, and if you’re not writing the comedy in the key of Mel Brooks, it’s not gonna land. These sequels are missing the point of the originals entirely.

History of the World, Part II failed because the humor style changed from the original. Whereas the original film didn’t require having an understanding of a ton of contemporary pop culture or events to make the jokes land, the sequel series was almost completely parodies of reality TV, new Beatles documentaries, and so on. It’ll age badly because the cultural context will pass it by. Even the few times they directly called back to segments from the first movie, it was dull and unfunny.

Such a shame, because I wanted to love Part II, and it was one of the most disappointing things I’ve ever seen associated with Mel Brooks.

Not only that, but they celebrated the anniversary of Sister Act not that long ago, and the stage version has been doing well, so if anyone was paying attention and reading between the lines, they'd notice the franchise has been primed for a sequel. It's in the public consciousness now, now's the time to do it. With enough time having passed, I could now see the role of Mother Superior falling to Whoopi.

Now there's a rumor about a St. Elmo's Fire sequel to see what everyone's been up to for the last 40 years and are nearing retirement, and they want every one of the main seven to come back.

It's time to bring the Go-Bots back and make them cool. Let the world know they are not just second rate Transformers.

As I was reading your post, Man in Motion played in the background on an advertisement. Spooky!

It may be very difficult to find Judd Nelson's whereabouts, but six out of seven simply isn't going to cut it.
