Why not just adapt Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe series, considering that's what Chinatown was pretty much a pastiche of?

A new version of Van Helsing will be a modern day procedural. Coming from some of the makers of Elementary, it does sound very much in the same vein:

I’ll stick my neck out and say yes.
I was actually thinking it’d be ripe for a crossover, given that there have been various non-canon Holmes stories where he meets Dracula and the like. And Peter Cushing has played both Van Helsing and Holmes while Christopher Lee has been Dracula and Holmes (I think Richard Roxburgh has also been Drac and Sherlock; probably others).
God help us all when the internet gets hold of this movie and they don't use the word in it. Or do use it.

I must admit that I never gave it a chance because it always struck me as a poor man’s version of Sherlock.
That's kind of why I never watched it.
Sherlock had several stories that were amongst the best TV I've seen, but was very inconsistent as it went on. It couldn't (perhaps understandably) maintain that level. It was a few "big bangs".
Elementary kept a consistent and regular schedule of good quality, intelligent and entertaining episodes. It was great !
Though as Cumberbatch, Freeman, RDJ and Jude Law have all been in the MCU, I kind of want Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu to be in it too, just to complete the full set
Very different shows. I alway wanted a crossover though. Miller and Cumberbatch did a run of the play Frankenstein where they alternated playing The Creature and Victor.
I always found it hard to believe that this was just coincidence, in terms of casting JLM as Sherlock in Elementary.
Ryan Murphy and the creators of "Will & Grace" are teaming up to produce what is best described as a "Gender Swapped 'Golden Girls'" staring Matt Bomer and Nathan Lane, for HULU.
