Good trailer. I liked it. Now I'm ready for the real one!

Hey, kinda off-topic concerning Nimoy's voiceover. I haven't listened to it in a while, but doesn't his "Space ..." voiceover appear on the official soundtrack?

Boy, I really feel the need to find that thing and give it a spin.

It does, right at the end.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

Heh. I watched it and said "That's IT?" What kind of teaser is this? They showed/did NOTHING.

I watched it again and saw the lettering of Star Trek which looked "off" and I said, "I bet it's a fake."

Nice "tease" though, as it getting us all to look at it.

Sadly this image too, is a fake. i couldn't find the one with the lettering on it and was too lazy to add it!

Since we are now talking trailers (fan created) I came across this on YouTube. It is about 2 minutes too long at a total of 3 minutes. It should have ended at 1:15. Also there is a bad soundtrack transition at 13 seconds but I really enjoyed the effort put into it.

Check it out...

When I got the soundtrack many years ago I was surprised when I heard the voice-over yet loved it. I copied it onto my computer many years later and I still listen to that soundtrack often.

Back OT I kinda thought it was a fake because the flyby through our solar system reminded me of the one from "Superman Returns". Nice job either way, but I don't think this would get many new fans excited to see this movie.

I agree. The scenes of past TOS episodes and movies reflected on the E reminded me of the teaser trailer of Revenge Of the Sith with old Obi Wan from A New Hope lamenting about the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire. A nice nod to the past.

Well, even though it's a fake, I have to say that I enjoyed it. As others have commented, it wouldn't do much to bring in new fans, but it was still fun, anyway.

Definitely can't wait to see the real thing!

I'm glad it's fake. It wasn't even as good the opening credits of The Universe on the History Channel.

It was very derivative of the opening of a TNG episode.

But where's the fun in that? ;)

Actually, I'm getting to where I won't be surprised at all if on December 25, 2008 we find out this whole thing was an elaborate hoax.
Instead of the movie, Abrams will appear on screen and say, "What are you doing here on Chistmas? Don't you have family you should be at home with on this day? What geeks you all are." He will be followed by Shatner appearing long enough to say, "Get a life." The snip of film will end with the sound of Nimoy's taunting laughter as the credits roll.

ETA: And it will still take in $40 million on its first weekend.

I would pay 10 bucks to see that. Prolly better than what we're going to end up with. ;)

:) That's why it's called a teaser trailer!

Thank you - as we all should know by now, "teaser trailers" only offer a hint of the what the film is. The actual trailer no doubt like most movie trailers contain actual footage and stuff.

As I understand all reports concerning this "teaser" it might be more involved then most but still remain a teaser.
Why are people not seeming to grasp this?

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

The whole point of a teaser is not to get US excited. We're all either as excited, or as repulsed, now as we will be 'til we start seeing real footage.

A teaser is to get the folks who have no idea that this movie is even COMING to start thinking "hmmm... maybe I want to go see that movie."

In order to do that, it has to avoid Trek cliche's. It has to draw the audience into thinking "that's an awesome movie" before they start thinking "oh, ho-hum, it's another Star Tracks movie... yawn-o-rino!"

SO, I really am looking for a teaser that doesn't tell the folks in the "Cloverfield" auditorium that it's a Trek trailer at first, but gets them hooked through something that they don't recognize, and only SPRINGS it on them at the last moment that they've been duped, and this "really cool-looking movie" is actually Star Trek.

First impressions tend to stick. And in this case... people who see the trailer and say "that looks cool" FIRST will be more likely to go to the movie (and to get their friends to go to the movie).

From a pure business standpoint, you really want to avoid trying to sell this as a STAR TREK MOVIE and instead sell it as an exciting story with great characters... and which just HAPPENS to be set in the Star Trek world.

I expect a 30-second teaser. And I don't expect to see anything specifically identifiable as Star Trek until at least 20 seconds have passed.

I'll be there in the theater, actually, but not to see the trailer (I'm sure it won't give me anything that I, personally, want... it's not targetted at US, guys!). I'm really intrigued by the idea of a Godzilla movie that's not intentionally campy. ;)

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

Well, for a fake trailer, that was pretty cool. I'll be waiting patiently to see the real thing.

No one would get excited by this thing except a diehard Trekkie, and not even all of them.

And your point is? :vulcan:

It's a fair point, but there's only one person's satisfaction I'm interested about as regards this movie. And that's me.

You do want to see more Star Trek, yes? While your own needs are obviously important, you should pray that the general population is interested in the upcoming trailer.

Well, let me put it this way:

I would be more satisfied if the film is one I enjoy (but bombs at the box office) than if it is a film I do not enjoy (but is a success at the box office). If in the latter case the film's success leads to Star Trek products I do enjoy (just as The Voyage Home gestated the whole second generation of the franchise), I'll concede its strategic usefulness, but I still do not ike it as a film.

Selfish? Absolutely. This isn't a matter of charity. All I want out of my entertainment is something that entertains me. Which is why, obviously, Abrams and co. should not listen to me but listen to their beancounters. Sensible folks they are, they want to make money.

Now, if there is a congruence of my interests and theirs - that is, if the film is both one I enjoy and makes money - that is certainly the best outcome. But just as they only care about the second factor, I only care about the former.

And deep down, except for those of us who have a cultic admiration for Trek, isn't that what we all want first and above all? A movie we like?

All this said... yes, the teaser trailer should get the audience riled up. It will increase the chances of the film being a success, and won't ultimately effect my actual enjoyment of the film either way.

Couldn't agree more. Trek hasn't done that but for sparingly for me personally in a very long time. It teased me a few years back with hit or miss results.

I would be more satisfied if the film is one I enjoy (but bombs at the box office) than if it is a film I do not enjoy (but is a success at the box office).

Here's where we part ways. To me, too many "Star Trek fans" think in those terms, many rail agianst the mere notion Star Trek might become something meant for the few elite fans and somehow equate "popular" with "dumb" or selling out - Trek could be a whole lot more popular, really there's a grain of something special there that should be shared with "General audiences" - true in order to begin that relationship Star Trek as whole will have to give a piece of itself and alter its nature perhaps just a little bit to gain more appeal.

For a franchise that gives lip service to IDIC, and "looking to the future" it hasn't in its many years done a whole of changing either itself or its fans who cling stubbornly to a checklist of traditions of what "Star Trek" is supposed to be. Even when it tried to rethink itself basically we ended up with the same thing with a new Chrono date added to it.

End of soapbox...
