The Teaser Trailer has arrived!!

RoJoHen said:
Not only is it the exact voiceover from the end of TWOK, it's the music from the beginning of GEN when they're christening the Enterprise-B.

But aren't trailers often put together with sound from other films.

Wow! Did that SUCK!!
I sure hope this is a fake because if this is their idea of getting general audiences excited about Trek, then we're in real trouble.

Stock music is often used because the proper soundtrack hasn't even been composed yet.

This "leaked" trailer is exactly what I expect to see frankly. It'll be interesting who ends up with egg on their face here...

My German isn't great (actually it's terrible and barely qualifies as comprehension of anything), but they even identified this as Spock's TWOK monologue. Hell, even if you can't speak German, I'm sure you could guess the meaning of this phrase:
identisch mit dem monolog am Ende von Star Trek 2: Der Zorn des Kahn

Which I can more or less translate as 'identical with the Monologue from the end of Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn [sic]'.

Still, you know something? This is the coolest fakery released about Trek XI so far. If we get anything like this I'll be happy.

It makes no sense to use the "These are the voyages..." speech regarding this movie. It's not about the Enterprises' mission. Fake.

If a trailer like this hit the theaters, Star Trek would be stillborn.

No one would get excited by this thing except a diehard Trekkie, and not even all of them.

And your point is? :vulcan:

It's a fair point, but there's only one person's satisfaction I'm interested about as regards this movie. And that's me.

If it's not real it has to be the most expensive hoax trailer ever.

Doesn't look that expensive to me. Someone with basic CG experience could probably whip together something similar using existing 3D models in a few days.

Well, considering every single one of the Germans on the site leaking the trailer thinks it's fake, I'm gonna have to go with "fake".

But we'll see the new one in about a week.

It's about the best fake teaser I've seen yet. Hope the real one is better, though. I wouldn't cue in the fanfare until the Enterprise is visible on the screen, more dramatic.

Why? It used opening theme music from "Generations." It used the voiceover from the end of "ST II." It used CGI planets that ANY of us could download and install and render from. The ONLY part that seemed to require some work was the ship and drydock... and that drydock sure looks like it's a modification of the ST-TMP drydock model (but, oddly, in a different scale compared to the ship inside).

As for the ship itself... we don't see too much, but it looks like the 1701 but with some modified texturing.

I'm giving this a 75% chance of being a fake. But I won't be shocked if it IS the real thing, either.

My biggest "beef" with this, if it IS the real trailer, is that it's so obviously designed to appeal to the "hardcore fans" and will do NOTHING to bring non-Trek-fans into the theater. Seriously... if you see that, and you're not a Trek fan... how did that trailer just convince you that this is a movie "I've gotta see?"

I think it's a fake (purposefully avoiding the Romulan-dude hissing yell thingy!).

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

The creator of this, Daniel Broadway, has come forward and owned up. See Post No. 26 over at TrekMovie.com:

http://trekmovie.com/2008/01/10/when-will-pirated-star-trek-trailers-show-up-online/

Daniel Broadway said: Ummm, wow. Yeah, that’s most definitely fake, because I made it.

Here’s what happened.

My roommate jumped on my computer while I was sleeping to do this. He stays up all night, because he works an evening shift. He thought it would be funny to post it online as a “leaked” trailer to try to fool people. I had left a test render going overnight, and I had planned on releasing it on Friday after I polished up the CG a bit more.

However, for some reason, my roommate thought it looked good enough to fool people. I don’t know why. Obviously, it is inspired by the Trekmovie.com teaser, and it uses music and elements from other movies.

So, I just want to apologize for the big misunderstanding. My roommate just woke me up, and told me what he did. He is now standing over my shoulder laughing it up. Anyway, again, I really apologize for the confusion.

I’m kind of bummed about this. I was gonna release the trailer on a fan site or two, in the spirit of fun. But since the cat is already out of the bag, I guess I’ll go ahead and post it now…
So it has been debunked as a fake.

Poached or scrambled? Looks like this particular April Fools egg hit me a few months early this year!

That was some fantastic CGI for a fan trailer though, Daniel.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

as ChristopherPike posted above, the creator of this has come forward and admitted it's a fake. Even without that, I found an error in the credits that made me think this was a hoax.

Stratton Leopold is listed in the credits as an Executive Producer. However, Leopold left the production last month and has been replaced by Jeffrey Chernov as an Executive Producer. Chernov has also taken over as a unit production manager from Leopold.

Maybe Leopold's name will remain in the credits because of the work he did prior to leaving (maybe), but I would think that Chernov's name would be listed also.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

If you listen closely enough you can hear the soundtrack from STII underneath Nimoy's voice over.

After being duped by the teaser poster in the other thread, I must admit I am tiring of people posting these "what if" concoctions and instead of being up front about it, passing it off as something else.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

^ If you read, it was his roomate's prank. He intended to release it without trying to fool anyone.

But where's the fun in that? ;)

Actually, I'm getting to where I won't be surprised at all if on December 25, 2008 we find out this whole thing was an elaborate hoax.
Instead of the movie, Abrams will appear on screen and say, "What are you doing here on Chistmas? Don't you have family you should be at home with on this day? What geeks you all are." He will be followed by Shatner appearing long enough to say, "Get a life." The snip of film will end with the sound of Nimoy's taunting laughter as the credits roll.

ETA: And it will still take in $40 million on its first weekend.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

Good trailer. I liked it. Now I'm ready for the real one!

Hey, kinda off-topic concerning Nimoy's voiceover. I haven't listened to it in a while, but doesn't his "Space ..." voiceover appear on the official soundtrack?

Boy, I really feel the need to find that thing and give it a spin.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

Doesn't the Enterprise look a bit...fat?

It's a fake, by the way, methinks...

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

It's too bad it wasa fake, I thought it all looked extremely good, except the shuttle pod. I personally got excited.
