the sword of Kahless and the cool factor!!!

So this episode was cool! It didn't have the way of the warrior awesomeness but still very cool. We learn more about Klingons and even more about who work is. We have dax right in the middle of both. loyle to the fed and to her friend with a blood oath. SHe choose both and that was so well played. It was like d and d for trek!!

It was kinda 'meh' for me. Had some good, funny moments, but not as good as other season 4 episodes. We're just watching season 4 right now, my girlfriend and me, and saw this a few days ago.

It didn't rock my world. ;)

I thought it was cool though not alot of depth to it. It was way fun. Are you saying you didn't like it or that it just is not your favorite?

I liked it, certainly. Just not my favorite. I felt Worf was a bit out of character in this, and Kor was to much a stereotype drunken old Klingon. They talked about how the sword could unite the Klingon people, but the feel of the episode wasn't that epic. They found the sword so quickly, I couldn't help but feel underwelmed how easy it was.

I can't help but wonder if it could've worked as a two-parter, setting up more suspense in the first part and only finding the sword at the end of the first part, with the second episode dealing more with the sword's impact on individuals, let alone an empire. Flesh it out a little more.

Not one of my favourites. With a story description like Worf and Kor teaming up to find the Sword of Kahless and being confronted by Toral, the former puppet of the Duras Sisters, it should have been more epic than a couple of characters wandering around a cave.

We learn more about Klingons and even more about who work is.
I think the problem for most of us is that we already knew all this stuff but it's new for you as you never saw TOS or TNG. We know Worf as he was on TNG for 7 years, we know about Klingon culture, we met Kahless and we know how he became Emperor, we know Toral and his family's attempt to seize control of the empire, and so on. Compared to what came before on TNG, this episode is a bit lacklustre.

Some good performances, but the cave set was a bit fake looking.

It's been quite a while since I've seen it, but wasn't it the same old cave set they trot out every time they need a cave from sometime around TNG S3-on? It always makes me laugh and go "Hey, it's the cave set!" when I see it pop up. ;)

I thought it was an alright episode. Although it irks me that the Vulcan research team couldn't get through the forcefield but Dax figured it out in about five seconds. I guess the Vulcans never thought of reversing the polarity.

All in all a good episode, and having Kor along made it all the more awesome.

im really ganna have to watch tng at somepoint

You should, it's a great show. It's much more episodic than DS9, but one of the few story arcs it did have revolved around various Klingon political factions vying for power, detailing how Gowron became Chancellor. It also introduced Worf's brother, Kurn (who shall make an appearance later in DS9's 4th season), and Worf's son, Alexander (who shows up in one of DS9's later seasons). TNG was also the show that introduced the Cardassians, Bajorans, Ferengi, Trill (sorta), O'Brien, his family, and many other elements that make up DS9's rich tapestry.

Plus, it had plenty of Romulans and a smattering of Borg.

That particular reversing of the polarity in this ep was one of the silliest ive ever seen, and was the one that inspired my user name:-)

^ I knew I couldn't have been the only one. :) I guess the Vulcans just don't watch much sci-fi. If they did, reversing the polarity would be the first thing they tried.

I love the cave set :)

Overall this episode didn't leave much of an impression on me, though.

if you put all the series in order that you liked them where would tng fall?

My list of favourites goes like this:

1) DS9
2) TNG
3) TOS
4) Enterprise
5) Voyager

TNG was the first Star Trek show I watched and I watched it from a very young age (I don't remember a time in my life when I wasn't a Trek fan) so it has a special place in my heart. DS9 overtook it as my favourite around the time of Way of the Warrior because of the great story arcs. Voyager was frustrating as it was on the air the same time as DS9 but it never reached a sustained level of quality like DS9 (in my opinion, others disagree). Enterprise was all over the place the first two years, but in the final 2 years it was pretty damn good. TOS was the last one that I watched and I enjoyed it, but you have to accept it as a product of its time.

I didn't hate this episode, but thought Worf was way out of character, and acted dishonorably when he tried to get Kor let go of the sword, and to jump on a ledge that wouldn't support him.
