The strangest thing about Picard…

Sure, lets keep the guy that made the only watchable Season of Picard and set the groundwork for the next show completely away from the next show.

If that isn't setting things up for failure, I couldn't tell you what is.....

He's hardly the only talent out there. It's absurd to rely solely on one person in a while franchise.

On Enterprise, he co-wrote the story for 3-5 "Impulse" and wrote the story for 3-14 "Stratagem," both great episodes.

On Picard, he wrote 2-1 "The Star Gazer" with Akiva Goldsman. He went on to write 2-2 "Penance" with Akiva Goldsman and Christopher Monfette, story with Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, and Christopher Monfette. Why did it take 4 people to write this episode? He came back in S3 to write 3-1 "The Next Generation," 3-4 "No Win Scenario" with Sean Tretta, and 3-10 "The Last Generation." He also directed the final 2 episodes.

According to Perplexity, these were the producers of PIC S3.
Terry Matalas (Showrunner and Executive Producer)
Alex Kurtzman / Akiva Goldsman / Michael Chabon / James Duff
Patrick Stewart (who also stars as Jean-Luc Picard)
Heather Kadin / Rod Roddenberry / Trevor Roth / Douglas Aarniokoski
Aaron Baiers / Dylan K. Massin / Jason Michael Zimmerman
Why does it take 13 people to produce a 10-episode season?

Let Matalas move on to Disney, he can't do any damage there.

Were infrared lenses issued?

I know who he is.

Most producer credits are vanity positions. Matalas, Kurtzman, Goldsman and a couple of others did the actual work.

how is the season that saved Picard and TNG doing damage to anything?

Season one was mostly fine until the end.

By retconning the end of the previous season AND stupidly setting up a show set on an Enterprise while there's already a better show set on an Enterprise.

Brilliant.

we had TOS movies and TNG series both taking place on an Enterprise at the same time.

The previous unwatchable season that already had made a mess of everything? Fine by me. I couldn't get through either of the first 2 seasons. The third was appointment viewing and ended 2 decades of unremitting hostility between myself and the Next Generation.

#1 TNG didn't need saving, it ended on TV in 1994 and at the movies in 2002.
#2 I strongly disliked that the PICARD S1-2 cast were dumped in favor of the "big TNG reunion."
#3 I did enjoy having the TNG gang back one last time, but not at the expense of dumping the S1-2 cast.
#4 There's also a lot of bad writing throughout the season.
#5 Matalas just wanted to do TNG S8.

1. TNG had 2 terrible movie endings, some of which put a bad taste in many peoples mouths for a VERY long time, and ending with the death of Data.
2. I could care less about any of those characters to begin with. It should have been the TNG reunion from the beginning.
3. First watchable TNG since First Contact.
4. And all the needless death and torture of characters and season 1 wasn't? The entire plot of S2 wasn't bad writing? Come on dude.
5. Yes, and we are all the better for it. Actually not S8, though..... Movie 5. TNG through the lens of the TOS movies. Absolutely Fucking Fantastic.

Season 2 was a production nightmare. Michael Chabon (the co-showrunner for season 1) wrote scripts for 202 and 203 dealing with Confederation Earth before COVID took hold. These then needed to be paired down to a single episode, drafted by Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas. Then plans changed for season 2, with Christopher Monfette revising the episode again to meet the restrictions of COVID and CBS / Paramount rejecting an initially revised plan for season 2 for "being too Star Trek".

I personally love Nemesis, but objectively, it just ended TNG with a big "meh."
What was the other "bad movie ending?"
2. I could care less about any of those characters to begin with. It should have been the TNG reunion from the beginning.
Should'a would'a could'a. Star Trek: Picard was always intended to be Picard post-TNG. I always expected there to be a TNG reunion towards the end, and I'm happy it spanned S3, but I am also upset that it meant ditching the S1-2 cast. I loved Rios, Elnor, Juratti, and Soji (and Kore).
3. First watchable TNG since First Contact.
Insurrection is a great film. There are a lot of great moments in Nemesis, like the wedding reception.
4. And all the needless death and torture of characters and season 1 wasn't? The entire plot of S2 wasn't bad writing? Come on dude.
I like S1 more than S2. Aside from Icheb's popping eyeball, what torture? Been a while since I watched. I've never denied S2 as the WTF season.

The four actors who starred in S1-2 and were fired, they weren't "the better for it."
