Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

The CGI, whilst not of the same quality as the JJ movies - is still better than what was done on Enterprise :D

I ... actually don't think so.
It might have to do a lot with composition, style, artistic direction, whatever... but I think putting a random ENT vfx shot next to a random SNW one - the ENT one usually looks better or at least as good.

The big difference of course being - ENT had max 5 new vfx shots per episode, whereas SNW has, what, like 50+ every week? And all of them with fancy camera movements, lense flares and way, way more objects on screen at the same time. Srsly, the quantity is immense, I'm absolutely positively surprised.

But apart from that - it's remarkable how similar the quality is. It's a much smaller difference than, say, between TOS to TNG, or even TNG to ENT.

Now... you say that. I still think Discovery crashing onto an ice planet surface in the second episode on season three in 2020 looked way worse and more artificial than Voyager doing the same thing in "Timeless", way back in 1998.

DIS looks more advanced. VOY looks better.

As I said - modern one has much more shots, way, way more stuff floating around (all that asteroids, dust, debris) and all sorts of lense effects & camera movements, and the level of detail is way higher.
The old one is pretty simple - only two objects (the VOY & the planet), and the rendering really looks less natural.
But the direction really sells it. Everything looks heavy and solid. It just "feels" right.

I don't know how long it's been since you last saw ENT, but, no, it's not even close. Even back in the day, it was clear it was CGI - though nicely done.

Based on your other posts, I have no doubt you'll prefer the style of that CGI over modern stuff, but it doesn't compare on a technical basis. There's no way it could, of course, given the amount of time that's passed since those were created and the advances in CGI in just those years.

I prefer the DIS shot. The ship looks a lot heavier and the impact looks like it releases more kinetic energy. The ground isn't designed to look like pure snow and that gives it a different vibe.

Also: VOY nailed the lighting. It's a simpler scene, but they did a good job of replicating outdoor sunlight under a blue sky. The DSC scene by comparison looks like it's been art directed to hell and so seems phonier despite 20 years of advances.

Okay, let's get back to SNW ships.
I think the Shepherd ring ship is too complex and intricate to be turned into an Eaglemoss model.
So far, the new Enterprise, April's shuttle and the USS Archer appear doable.

Sign me up for a USS Archer once Eaglemoss releases it! Maybe more than one lol

I just hope they do the USS ARCHER in the regular size first rather than the overblown larger ones.

The larger sizes are too expensive for what ya get.
(I haven't purchased any of the XL ships)

I was hoping from the start that they would at least do all the Enterprises in the same scale but that didn't happen.

Unfortunately, the ships are all done to "Price-point Scale" and the standardized size of the display box.

Two things I would like to add.

In the first episode, as Stamets is approaching the Enterprise, we hear this announcement: "USS [], please transfer to y." I am trying to understand what the name of this ship. It sounds like Elgin.

We see two new ship classes in next week's episode. One of them could be Gorn and the other, based on the nacelle designs, is a Federation design. Star Trek on Paramount+ on Twitter: "Some have seen them. Few survive them. Next episode, the Enterprise is hunted by the Gorn on #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds. https://t.co/VNbHlQtTlM" / Twitter
