Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

So…does anybody think we’ll be seeing other Starfleet vessels? Like, what this thread topic was originally about?

I hope we only see other Starfleet vessels very occasionally. I hope they really run with the idea that the Enterprise is on a five-year mission of exploration far outside of Federation space and far away from the rest of the fleet.

The series seems to start in drydock, so I'm guessing there may be some other ships in the background. But they'll probably be reused from Disco rather than anything new.

Other than that I doubt we'll see much of Starfleet. Maybe in season two.

Looks like Kirk has a different ship insignia in some of the leaked photos, so there might be a chance of seeing the Farragut.

I thought they'd retconned ship insignias out of existence though, given that Discovery and Section 31 were already using the traditional Starfleet delta.

'Continuity' means much for/to the production team of SNW as it has for/to the production teams of every other Star Trek series to date; going all the way back to 1966.

Continuity was good through the Berman era. Not so much the CBSAA era.

They’ll just retcon them back. Continuity means little these days.

It's not that bad. It would probably be something like the unique badges being a new idea in the early 2260s, they tried them out on a few ships, and gave Starfleet Command it's own badge. Eventually they decided against deploying the idea to the full fleet. The Enterprise never got a new badge. The idea went away after TMP (Epsilon 9 has a badge).

Of course we'll see other ships. Particularly since there are scenes with crew members wearing pins specific to different ships. It's not cool to be contrarian.
The question was "Do I think we will see any other Starfleet ships." I do not think that.

We have no context for the pins so I will wait and see what actually happens rather than assuming we will see other Starfleet ships.

I think it's one of those "humorous statements" I've read about. Humor.... Yeah, that's the ticket... ;)

I'm probably wrong, but I got the impression that the pins we've seen in the previews represent other starships lost in the line of duty.

(9 times out of 10 my guesses aren't even close) :scream:

Someone that posted about the props that were at Mission: Chicago said that the pins were worn to honor lost ships and the crews aboard them.

So I'm thinking that the start of SNW will have Starfleet convincing Pike to come back for another Five-Year Mission and that there will be this ceremony to honor Discovery, and part of the mission will be to do it in honor of them (even though the ship and crew were never to be mentioned again, per Spock's suggestion...)
