Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

Yeah, should the Argus Array exist at this point?
Also, the positions of the named systems relative to each other look somewhat off...?

Also: thanks to @Harpsichord for finding that image file!

The Argus Array from Generations had very TOS-style control panels, implying that it was rather old. So if it's the same Argus Array in SNW, that's a very appropriate nod.

Getting back to this map here...

Comparing it to this excerpt from Mandel 2002...
LocalSpace-2378-AlphaQuad-Rimward by Dwight Williams, on Flickr

Figured we needed the actual map section to compare against what we see in the publicity still. Gamma Trianguli should be further rimward - towards the bottom of the map - than Alpha Majoris, for example...?

Aren't holodecks bigger on the inside?

No. They use treadmill forcefields to stop people being able to reach the walls, and forced perspective and holographic imagery to make the interiors look bigger than the room really is. There's a couple of episodes (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint", TNG: "Ship in a Bottle") where Data is able to prove they are in a holodeck by throwing something at the wall, where it bounces off and causes image corruption.

Seems like a hell of a waste of resources.

Maybe. Or maybe the amount of energy it takes to maintain hammerspace in a ship means it's only used when necessary and otherwise it's better to use normal ship structures.

Argus Array? Setlik System?

I have to admit, I would prefer it if SNW didn't introduce elements related to Cardassia, Bajor, etc., because of my pet theory that they were in what used to be called the Delphic Expanse and the Federation stayed away from that region until the 2300s. But it's not really a continuity issue or anything, just an issue of preference.

"Shuttle Stamets"?

Why not? It makes sense -- as far as almost everyone aside from Pike and Spock knows, the crew of the Discovery sacrificed their lives to defeat Control. Starfleet thinks they all died as heroes; I wouldn't be surprised if the crew of the Discovery all have shuttlecraft named after them!

Sufficiently advanced technology seem like magic to us. but how can you not see how the ability to create huge spaces in small containers would be useful.
For Mary Poppins and kid's books its fine.

I'm less forgiving in my science fiction/space fantasy.
We have very different eyes. To me it looks absurd.
*shrugs* what do I know? I care very little about starships, save as a vehicle to adventures. And, yes, pun very much intended.

Sure, in a purely physical sense, but perceptively it can be a vast space. They also use replicator technology to create matter as well as merely projecting an image of an object.

So the technology exists to create something subjectively akin to "TARDIS tech" in TNG's 24th century. Who knows what is possible by Discovery's 32nd century?

In the very first episode of Doctor Who, the Doctor says it's like television, you can fit an entire universe in a small room. It's nonsense of course, but hints that the seeming impossibility of the TARDIS is merely a matter of perception.

If you've got an infinite energy source, you could use replicators, transporters and programmable matter to create anything within a small space, projecting whatever you like to fool human perception.
