Just got the DVD set of Series XI from the library. I'm actually pretty impressed. Aside from the cast's age, it felt a lot like the show of old, with some fairly clever sci-fi plots driven as much by philosophical concepts as by character humor. It did revisit a lot of ideas from the series's heyday, but while I didn't need to see another Polymorph story, some of the revisits helped give a nice sense of continuity, like the Samsara being based on an alternative application of the Justice Planets' instant-karma technology. And there were some fun new ideas added too, like science speakeasies, bioprinter jams, and a sentient universe (who sounds kinda like Morgan Freeman). Not as good as Series X was, but pretty good overall. Some nice effects, too. Always nice to see miniatures in this day and age.
