Spoilers The Sandman grade and discussion

Hall.

If they tried to veer away from Hector Hall as the daddy, that's fine, but no one's given a damn about Hawkman, or Hawkmnan's spawn ever, so that just seems like a lot of effort for no reason.

That's not what he says. All he says is it'll take extremely good metrics to get renewed because the show's so expensive, so nothing's guaranteed.

Neil said that they had the best most money making show on the internet, but they still weren't making enough money to justify the cost of making this Sandman, or another season of Sandman.

They will have to slash future production costs, if they want a hope of make season 2.

Unless you're referring to a different quote, he does not say that. People are interpreting "I don't know if we're popular enough to guarantee a second season" as "I'm doubtful we'll get a second season," but he's literally saying he does not know, one way or the other.

As Neil himself has stated multiple times, he does not have insider information on what Netflix is thinking or what the metrics are. When he says he doesn't know, he literally means that. He's not speaking in code.

Because Sandman is a really expensive show. And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season we have to perform incredibly well. So yes, we've been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough.

Top Show, it's like Top Gun, but with streaming instead of fighter planes.

I don't see how they'll pull that off and keep the quality. The upcoming stories, if anything, require bigger budgets.

They can't pull it off.

Reducing the budget is a death sentence usually.

Although $15 million an episode is ###cking ridiculous.

Although every Marvel Disney + show cost 25 million per episode and Stranger Things cost 30 million per episode.

Damn!

Which makes sense since Netflix is cagey about releasing their metrics, especially to above the line creatives. This is a sticking point in a lot of union negotiations right now and the WGA is set to go to head with the streamers on this next year.

There's a difference between begging for viewers and encouraging fans to spread the word to increase chances for renewal. He's doing the latter.

Neil Gaiman said:
If we get a second season. (Please encourage all your friends to watch Sandman. Encourage all your friends who have begun to watch Sandman but got distracted by life to finish watching Sandman.)
Telling people who have things going on in their life to stop and go watch the show has to be getting close.

Geoff Johns did and made him Doctor Fate.
THAT one I didn't know!

I really hope this show gets another (and more) seasons. They really seem to have found their footing by the end of the season.

We watched the "surprise" episode last night and I was very pleased, especially at the performances in Calliope.

I think bonus episode was timed to strategically reengage viewers and press two weeks later. Seems they are really trying to play the algorithm numbers telling everyone they need to binge and not pace themselves for it to count most and so on.

Netflix has released a deleted scene from "Sleep of the Just," featuring more Roderick Burgess:

A pity it wasn't included because more Charles Dance is always a glorious thing.
