News The Return of 90s Television: Murphy Brown is coming back, too. What show will return next?

I'd bring back Ark II. (aiming low)

You can never go wrong with a chimpanzee in the cast (Roseanne had Tom Arnold after all).

Hell, they could save money and bring back B.J. & The Bear and use the same chimp (assuming SAG lets him work that many hours).

My idea about how they could bring back Sliders (storywise): SyFy does a short wrap-up miniseries (ala Farscape The Peacekeeper Wars) that brings the original to a satisfying conclusion for fans of the original (and bringing the full original cast back) - including the fall of the Kromaggs and undoing some of the damage from the latter seasons. TAnd then they can start up the show again with a new group of characters from yet another "similar to Earth Prime" Earth.

Of course, I wish the Robert K. Weiss long-in-development-hell Sliders motion picture could get made.

That would be in a perfect world. I have no idea if there is any desire from anyone (studio, writers, cast or fans) to bring Sliders back. Is it even in the public consciousness now?

I don't know how popular the show is but the idea of alternate universes I think is more understandable to many fans. It seems lke you see that concept show up al great deal these days. I also would want them to hurray because of the age of the actor who played Arturo. I don't want a "Quantum Leap" situation where if they do the show they can't bring Stockwell in because of the actors current health. These actors on these old shows aren't getting younger and if don't move fast you can miss out on a chance to give the fans what they want to see.

I read about that yesterday. Sounds pretty promising considering it's Amazon with Abbi Jacobson directly involved.

I think that sounds like a cool idea for a show as well though it might have to be a mini-series. I wonder how long the real league lasted.

Wow! I didn't know that. I thought the league must have closed down once the war was over. That should give them more than enough material to do a great show though I am guessing because it's 2018 we will still only see 10 to 13 episodes per season. I hope they focus on real people and not just fictional characters. I also wonder if it will be framed via flashbacks which the movie was sort of like. Not really flashbacks but a modern setting to bookend the story. One of the best parts of the movie is the end where you see them all get together when they are old for the hall of fame ceremony and I would like the show to short of try and recapture that part of the movie for the show.

Amazon is developing a A League of Their Own television series for their streaming service (there was a very short lived television adaptation in 1993 of the 1992 movie).

I remember that. I watched the first couple episodes back in the day. It wasn't very good, which was a shame since the movie was great.

Given how long it really lasted, it's more plausible fodder for a long-running TV series than the Korean War was on M*A*S*H. ;)

Is it horrible I have no idea who Phil is?
He was a friend of Murphy's and an owner of a bar (bartender) that Murphy and co. would visit every so often.

A bit more, ala: Wikipedia:

The FYI team also frequently socializes at Phil's, a bar-and-grill across the street from their office/studio in Washington, D.C. Phil, the bar owner, was played by Pat Corley. Phil's was portrayed as a Washington institution, whose owner knew everything about everybody who had ever been anybody in the capital—ranging from what brand of lingerie J. Edgar Hoover preferred to the identity of Deep Throat (unknown to the public at the time of the series' production). In a running gag during early seasons, whenever someone entered Phil's (casting bright sunlight from the open door into the dark, murky bar), the patrons would all shout in unison "close the door!".

Fox is looking to bring back Last Man Standing because of Roseanne ratings. They should have picked it up last year when it was canceled.

Fox also wants to bring back Malcolm in the Middle, Married with Children and That 70s Show.
I like Last Man Standing and Malcolm in the Middle. Hated Married with Children and That 70s Show was a bore.

I think I vaguely remember him. Was he in the last seasons of the show? I mean it's never been rerun or on streaming so I'm trying to remember a show that I saw once 20 years ago.

Refuge, besides having odd taste in TV shows, Last Man Standing should have been saved by Fox when it was canceled as Fox Network comedies are trash in ratings. But in a year Disney (Who owns ABC that canceled LMS) will own Fox Studio who wants to bring it back. It's just not happening.

Since CBS loves their episodic procedurals and now are targeting nostalgia of their viewership age group, I suppose it's only a matter of time before they bring back Simon and Simon, Jake and the Fatman, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, TJ Hooker, but they might have trouble getting The Equalizer back.

Probably. But ironically enough they didn't bother back in 2012 with Murphy Brown, they waited until the show's 30th anniversary to capitalize on it.

He was there for most of the show's run, except the character was killed off in early season nine. In the series finale (at the end of season 10), he showed up alive and it was revealed that Phil had faked his death (because of what he knew about Whitewater).
Forgot about that! It's been too long. I wish they'd air the series again.
